Mountain Bike Riders

Any Mountain bike enthusiasts out there?

Im planning on buying a new Mountain Bike soon, and would like some advice or suggestions on what brands or models are good to start with or what I should stay away from.

Im looking for:
-Front suspension only
-light weight
-at least 21 speed probably 27
-disc brakes
-basically a good quality trail bike

It'll be a bike path, camping, light trail use kind of bike, Im not going to be downhill racing or flying off of dirt jumps with it.

Also if anyone knows any online bike sources with good prices, I'd love to hear from you.

I have been mountain biking for about 8 years now. The big name brands are almost all the same, with the biggest difference being the frames. I really like Cannondale, however, Trek, Specialized, and Kona are also great bikes. I would recommend spending around 400-500 dollars to make sure you get something that shifts and brakes well and will last for a long time. The biggest thing you want to make sure of is making sure you get good components to include front and rear derailleurs, brakes, front fork and tires.

Two Options.

I've been looking around on the net the past few days and so far im leaning towards one of these. Both of these bikes have great reviews and my last bike was a Specialized Hardrock but that was about 10 years ago and it was a good bike.

Thanks, I'll check out the website, I was originally only going to spend a few hundred dollars but then quickly realised I need to spend a bit more to get a quality MTB that will last and be safe to ride anywhere.

I just bought a Trek hybrid bike. They make good mountain bikes as well.

I did come tripping around after work with my girlfriend because we're both going to buy a bike and I think we decided on a couple Specialized Rockhopper Discs or a Specialized Hardrock Pro.

Salesman tried to push Kona Blasts on us but we both kinda like the Specialized and my last mountain bike was a Specialized and I really liked it. They are good bikes.

I have a Specialized Hardrock Comp Disk from 2005. I have ridden it all over on and off road. It's a pretty good bike, no complaints from me except the disk brakes could be a little better. But just a better brake setup would tack on a few hundred more dollars to the price tag. If it's your first off road bike this will be plenty for you.

So after shopping around a bit I decided to go with a 2007 Specialized Hardrock Pro; it has hydraulic disc brakes, hayes brake levers, sram shifters and rear deraileur and a deore front chain guide I think it is, shimano crank and marzochi MZ front fork.
Its a pretty good setup, been out a couple times with it so far.
the girlfriend went with a similar bike, the Specialized Hardrock Comp disc

Specialized bikes are nice bikes, I've never really heard anything bad about them.

Now I need to locate some nice trails in the nearby rocky mountains.

that sounds like a lot of fun. you should have much better luck finding trails in the rockies than I have find them in the flat@$$ mid-west

check out MTBR.com...they have a review section with lots of reviews on every bike possible....plus some good spots for trails all over the US
