Mountain/snowflake symbol

My buddy is on a vacation getting a blast of a snow storm ( Lake Tahoe ) driving a Yukon ( not his ) and confirmed with him , they wont let him leave unless he has chains or severe weather rated tires. He asked what the heck are those and thats exactly what they told him needed to be on the tires.

He lives here in Wisconsin and is on vacation. Not into tires , but actually called to ask me if it was true or if they were stroking him.

On the bright side he hooked up with a hottie from the resort for the night.

I asked about 4wd's and "needing" the snowflake a while ago. It was a thread talking about what a great tire the Cross-terrains are (as an everyday, all-rounder). A couple of the CO guys say they've never been stopped. California, go figure...

Laws vary by state, but that's the case in Oregon.

Hmmm, why does this not surprise me?? Oh yeah, that's right, i have been telling you guys that for a long time now! The snowflake-on-the-mountain symbol is legit and is respected by park rangers in the northern states. Where is Koz these days?

The snowflake symbol provides reassurance that a tire with this symbol will be good in severe snow weather.

When he called me on his cell , your the first person I thought of Thai , so I figured I'd post this on your behalf..... it was interesting to here.

If I lived in an area such as that with those regulations I would be more inclined that it was a must have, since I'm not there a good AT tire would suit me fine I'm sure . I'm NOT at all sure but isn't the choice pretty slim pickens with the severe rated symbol ?? ( here in the US market )

Why do my wifes tires have a shopping mall symbol on the side of them ????? Hmmmmm

well, I had limited experience with driving in snow. While I was on a closed interstate in snow the Scorpions were competent. No snowflake, no slipping, and no word from the station that stops the cars. just a smile a wink and a "get outta here".......to me, of course, that is the best way to roll....free and easy.

Yeah, the choices are limited, but among ATs, you do have some good choices, e.g. BFG AT KO, GY SilentArmor, and (i think) General Grabber AT. Like you said though, i am sure the other AT tires are good in snow too, but i like that snowflake tires have passed a "minimum" test to ensure that they will be, at least, decent in severe snow...in other words, it gives you some peace of mind that your tires just won't fail completely in snow.

yes. nice 3rd generation. he was doing great as well with 4WD. it was slushy nothing to serious.....

summer here now in Sacra tomato. 85 yesterday........Sunroof wide open. How far away from chi town are you up there?
