Mounting amps to the backseat?

Has anyone mounted an amp to the back of the fold down seats? I was planning a rather large stereo installation with 3 amps and subs, but now Im going in a different direction with my rig. I am thinking of mounting one 4ch amp on the back of the single folding seat on the drivers side. I popped the cover off and saw that there is the metal back frame of the seat and can maybe use that to attach the amp securely and maybe run wires underneath. Anybody got some pics or thoughts about this. Or any other areas that a 4ch amp may be able to sit out of the way. I am not installing subs anymore.

Hmm, what about behind any of the plastic side trim pieces in the cargo area? Thanks for any ideas.

I have mine that way, what is really nice is that when you fold them up, and if you have the cover in the rear, no one will be any wiser that you have some expensive audio equipment in the back.

Not at the moment, no sorry..

However, what i did do, is mount the amps to a MDF board and run all the wiring behind the MDF (no wires are visible), and the mdf is spaced and screwed onto the back of my seats.

If I were you I wouldn't put it in the plastic side trim, you'r amp will need to breath, and mounting it into enclosed area will only suck in the warm air it pumps out. I would do behind the seat since you aren't putting in subs, if you were I would just attach it to the box.

Yeah, gotcha on the breathin. But I am not putting in a sub so no box to speak of. But, if there is room for the amp behind the panels. I bet I could figure out a fan venting system with a computer fan, nice and small.

Well, that is something else that is in question. I'm thinking a RF but Im a huge Boston Acoustics fan. I was going tp do an amp for each channel. I have BA z6's in the front doors now and Pro 6's in the rear. Im thinking about selling those and getting some middle of the road BA speakers or something else. I just wanna have some good sounding speakers in the doors and a good 4ch amp. Im a big audiophile, so it is tough to go away from my orginal plans to have a crazy RF and BA setup. But, being true to myself, I wanna go more in the way of suspension and a stereo that if I drown it in a lake or get tons of dust in, I could care less than system that wll cost me 4G!

An amp for each channel is overkill..the amount of money it would cost you, would be insane, mayb two good 2-ch amps, but not 4 seprate mono-blocks.

Here is a big thing too..ditch the rear speakers, running off of just fronts works perfectly fine...

Its how my system is set-up and the sound quality is amazing.

As far as make of the amplifier...RF is going down the tube, their older stuff was kick-ass but their quality is starting to slip...

Boston acoutic is a good place to look,

also, ive seen very good kenwood, pioneer, alpine, and polk amplifiers....

I myself don't care RF, at least the newer stuff, RF subs are really bad, my audio guy was telling me they had problems with the voice coils starting on fire...as far as the fan goes, thats not a bad idea, I would put it closer to a window for better air flow, I think they sell small amp vent fans, little bigger then a comp. fan...would still put it behind the seat less of a chance something shorting out, over heating....although a buddy of mine put a amp under his seat in the storage ares in his cherokee w/o any problems, but he doesn't push it that hard if at all. My amp preferance would have to be pheonix gold and alpine, directed are pretty good too.

I had all old RF, that was the good years. If I say RF, Im searching for old 4ch. And yes, I know it was overkill. Im an audiophile with money to burn:biggrin2: But I wanna burn it on suspension now!

Personally i would say get either a polk c400.4, alpine MRP-F450, or a good kenwood 4ch
you can find em all pretty easily..
