Mounting Spare Tire

Has anyone modified their spare tire mounting area to accommodate a bigger tire? I've got 285/75's on my 4runner, and a 265/70 spare tire still sitting down there, and I'd prefer to have the same size spare, but I'm not sure if the bigger one will fit. It looks pretty snug as it is with the current tire, but I haven't measured it to see if the bigger size will fit. Anyone had any experience with this?

I thought i read the only thing in the way was the exhaust tail pipe. All you can do is try to fit it and see what happens.

If you have a hitch, that will get in the way at some point, IDK what size you could up to but it is pretty close as it is with the factory spare.

A 285/75 will fit, it is a little close but that is good when you off road it wont be moving around as much as the 265 can if it loosens a little. I know Steve at Sonoran Steel has a 315/75 (35" equiv.) but to get that in he did move the cable hoist mount higher so it didnt hang down so low. He was able to do that because of his body lift and just made a new cross tube and mounted the crank hoist to that. For the 285 no mods necessary.
