Moving Driver's Seat

At 6'0" and 190# I'm good sized but not a giant - and there just isn't enuf room in the driver's seat of my '02 SR5 'Runner.

With the manual seat all the way back, my thighs aren't supported by the seat bottom and after 30 minutes or so I start getting cramps in the underside of my right thigh. On a long run on winding roads - common in New Mexico - where I can't use the cruise control it gets very painful.

I had hoped to take the seat off the tracks, re-drill the mounting holes and re-mount it farther back, but looking under there it doesn't appear possible.

Any one else with this problem ?? Any ideas ?? Thanks.

You should make longer brackets that attach to the floor using the existing holes and bolts. The new brackets will allow more seat travel. You then attach the seat to the brackets.
I've never seen it done on a 4R but I know it has been done on Honda Pilots and Rav4s.

Check to make sure there isn't anything in the seat tracks stopping you from going all of the way back. I am also 6'....190 and fit just fine.

Yeah I don't think moving the brackets will be practical because they are shaped differently based on where they mount to the floor board. I agree that extending them would be better. I'm 6'2" at 205 lbs and don't have the problems you describe. I have the power seats so I don't know if they offer more adjustability or not.

I'm 6'3"+ and I find the seat doesn't go back far enough, too.

I'm my 96 Corolla, I had a fabricator make special metal brackets to mount the seat back an extra couple of inches. It was a FANTASTIC little mod... well worth it. The car was soooo much more comfortable.

I'd highly recommend it for your 4Runner. If you do it, let me know how it goes. I'd like to do it when I have time.

A couple washers and some longer bolts for the 2 front attachment points might help you out as well. It'll tilt the seat back a bit, but should provide a bit more thigh support.

I did this in another car, probably 1/2" - 3/4" raise in the front gave me an extra bit of room and support and made things much more comfortable.

mount the seat itself further back on the brackets

I keep my (power) seat all the way back, and the leg room is ample. Not as good as my Passat, but OK.

The thing that gets me is not being able to rest my right leg on anything. The console isn't tall enough to rest against, so I end up holding my leg in the same position. All is OK with cruise, but not when I'm on the pedal. I've thought about making a custom "knee rest" bracket off the side of the console, but it would probably interfere with the 4WD shifter.
