Moving to Seattle

Hey guys, looks like I'll be headed to Seattle mid-July. My fiance will be going to grad school up there and I'll be tagging along. I had a couple questions for you guys living up there. Is the rent as outrageous as people make it sound every time I tell them I'm moving to Seattle? We'll be close to Seattle Pacific University Campus, anyone know any good places to live around there?

I know it rains a lot, but what about icy/snowy weather in winter time?

And one more for now, what is the hunting situation up there? Is there a lot of public land? That is one big thing I will miss here in Texas come November so I hope I can make up for it up there.

Thanks for any input. Just trying to get a little more info about the area since I've never been.

Rent depends on what your basing it on. Yes I think rent is higher then most of the country. It will also depend on where you will be living. Seattle Pacific University Campus is in a really awesome area of Seattle! You will prob get a much smaller or older place then you might be used to in Texas.

I just moved out of my old place in Green Lake area, which is about 3 miles away from SPU. It was $900 for a large studio apartment. Now I'm in Kirkland (eastside) with a 2 bed 2 bath 3 times bigger for $1300.

Every area in Seattle is different, all depends what you like. Fremont, Queen Anne, Ballard, Wallingford, would all be great places to live!

Icy for about 2 or 3 months of the year and snow in the actual Seattle area is once or twice a year! I drove a s2000 all last winter and only needed to take my GF's subi twice to work.

Not a hunter but I know my buddies go to places around here.

Thanks for the responses guys! I'm really pretty pumped about the move and seeing some new places. Sounds like rent will not be too bad after all.

Ironically my fiance has a subaru also, and since my runner is 2wd, i might have to borrow hers as well...
