MP3 player heard via cd changer cable?

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove a changer and use its cable to hook up an mp3 player with spliced on rca connectors and use the changer setting on the head unit to listen? Just an idea I had. Also, you could maybe run a switch of some sort to switch between the changer and mp3 player. The switch could be mounted in the center consol and be manually activated. And both a changer and mp3 player could be switched between if the stereo was left on the changer source.
