So I spent the weekend giving my new to me 2003 V8 4wd with 102K miles some much needed TLC. I replaced the timing belt and water pump. Drained and filled the motor, transmission and transfer case and filled with synthetic fluids. Flushed the coolant. Removed a K&N air filter the previous owner had installed and replaced it with a Toyota one. I also cleaned the MAF sensor and removed the HCF from the air box. Lastly I installed new Denso Iridium plugs. After all that I have noticed a pretty good improvement in my MPG. I was getting about 16.8mpg and now I am getting about 20.5mpg (22mpg by the computer). I dont think the transmission fluid, transfer fluid or plugs had ever been changed by the look of it. Two days of work was definitely worth it to get it running a lot better and I am loving the mpg increase. Next I am going to do the diffs which I'm sure have never been changed either.
