MPG on your 3rd Gen?

I honestly just thought I was getting bad gas mileage because the supercharger. Will my 7th injector kit, new plugs, and figuring out my high idle issue help?

Could very well be depending on your driving style. I know mine definitely took a plunge when I first put it on. But now my mileage is actually better than before I had it. Well, minus this winter. It has taken a serious plunge. Hoping it's just winter gas blend.

I'm averaging out 14 mpg. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference city or highway. Highway I usually keep it at 65-70 as it starts to drop pretty quickly after that.

My 30 day average is 18.4, 90 day average is 17.2. Not bad considering the last 90 days cover the winter months up here.

I recently increased the psi in my tires from 30 to 45 after reading a post by another member who runs that high. My mileage went up by about 3 mpg from 15 to 18. That’s with 32” BFG ATs, 3” of lift and the increased weight of an arb bumper / winch/ full skids.

Having recently converted from the Jeep world I had never even considered running tire psi that high. Anything over 32 psi in a wrangler and you’ll bounce all over the road. At 45 my 3rd gen 4runner transmits a little more road vibe into the cabin, but not much and the increased mileage is worth it.

No ethanol

I run only pure gas in my 96 with 267k miles and get average 18-20 mpg. I do drive easy on it, and even at 75-80 mph im not going over 3k rpm on level highways. Being in TN i usually take it off cruise when going uphill on the interstate and keep the RPM down.

I also change my oil on the regular, I check oil every other gas fill up and when it starts to get dirty I change it. I run 5 qts regular Castrol GTX 1 bottle of Lucas oil stabilizer and use Purolator boss filter. that combo has really boosted by MPGs

Been averaging 21.5 to 22 with my 5 speed 3rz with 265/75’s and 4:56’s. That is about a 50/50 combination of city and highway. I can usually over 300 miles per tank.

I keep fuel records for every fillup (I know I'm a geek).

In the summer I average about 18.5 sometime as high as 19 or 20 (highway only).

In the winter I average about 16.5 to 17 mpg because of government mandated winter blend fuels.

Isn't it great? The govt is saving the world from our vehicles by making them burn more gasoline...........

Not picking on you, but this is a complete myth . Reduced gas mileage in the winter time is primarily from longer warm-up times (engines run very rich and with reduced ignition timing when cold, for both mechanial and emissions reasons). However, it is NOT because of "winter gas." Interestingly, it is actually the summer blends subject to greater restrictions due to concerns of more volatile components in less-refined blends creating more pollution in warm weather.

The energy density of "winter" blends is only about 2% less than "summer" blends, due to the additional non-gasoline products that can be blended into or left in the fuel to reduce costs. Thus, mileage would also be reduced by 2% if the fuel blend was the only factor, whereas most folks see 10-15% reductions on average (dependent on how far one drives per trip).

After a 3" lift, 33" tires, steel bumper, and roof rack, my mpg dropped down to the 12-14 range. It's rough but worth it imo!

Corrected for 33" tires, I'm right around 14.5-15. I've got a lift too but no armor or bumpers. Interestingly, my supercharger didn't make much of a difference, I pretty much get the same mileage. If I drive below 70 mph though, I can get into the 16-18 pretty easily.

Not sure if I posted it here, but with 33s on stock gears and a V6/Auto, I was hovering around 18 with a 16-mile one-way commute through mostly busy state highways (40-50mph with maybe 6 or 7 stoplights).

With a 2-mile commute and living much closer to shopping, my MPG went down to about 17. Adding bumpers, sliders, skids, and winch drive it down to 15ish.

2001 4runner sr5 4wd on bald 265/70R16 tires i average 18mpg in the city and have gotten up to 22mpg on the highway a couple of times. gas gauge doesnt work so i go by mielage and calculate my mpg regularly.

I've been averaging 18 mpg using 91 octane. With a mix of city and highway driving. The max speed 60mph.

Just picked up (last year) a '96 2wd with 319k~ now 338k
Runs like a top, and consistently get 25+ mpg, with an occasional trip into the 28's.... I LOVE MY TRUCK.

I'll contribute since it's been resurrected. Did the math a couple months ago and as I sit now - with a lift, 33in tires+larger wheels (but still 4.10), steel bumpers, sliders and skids - I'm averaging 17-18mpg with 300k on the odometer. I also live in a VERY hill-y area with lots of very windy roads everywhere so I'm damn pleased with those numbers, it really can't get much better all things considered. I only run ethanol free fwiw, I suspect if I ran E10 all the time I'd probably drop down 2 or 3 mpg. Ethanol free really helps on the inclines

i get a conservative 170miles out of a full tank supercharged on 285/75R16 KO2. Five O Motorsports Injectors, new genuine toyota fuel pump and filter.
I've learned to accept it over the years. it hurts driving it with the rising gas prices. MPG is literally the same as when it was naturally aspirtated. In stock form when i redid the motor with factory wheels I was able to get 320miles out of the turd

My mpg is still shockingly in lockstep with the original EPA ratings. Around town I'll get 16/17, on a long road trip: 19/20. (That's all on crappy 87 with the usual ethanol content.) '98 Limited, automatic, 2WD, with 215K. Stock tire size and suspension.
