Hi there!
I was going 80 miles on the highway 2nights ago(was raining badly) 75 mph (most of the time- some 80 some 70) I used up 5G that equals 16mpg on highway only is it normal??? (I have an 04 v8 with 0 mod's at the moment)


The way i calculate: i filled up the tank till it stopped, reset the "trip A" miles and filled up again after 80 miles...
Acording to the hvac I was going 60mph and the mpg was 17.5 :confused::confused::confused:

I used to get 20-21 before all the mods. Now I get around 14-15 but managed 17.15 on a road trip to and from LA, going 75 on I-5.
 
with a lift + spacers running 265/65 in my v8, driving like a dick, I usually get about 18 HWY and average probably 75-80 MPH.

If I were concerned about this, I would have a prius.
 
lol.. You have to understand ppl who post up those numbers are actually making an effort to get that so you can't expect to get that at 75-80.. Not to be a douche but y get a V8 if fuel efficiency is that big a priority? I get 19.5 on average cruisin at 70-75... When I do 80... Im not gettin 19.5 lol..
 
Speed is your biggest enemy. Wind resistance is the square of your speed.

At 50mph your wind resistance is 2,500...At 70mph your wind resistance is 4,900. That's almost DOUBLE.

Driving at 80mph the wind resistance is 6,400. The more aerodynamic your vehicle is the less wind resistance will have an effect. But our 4runners are NOT very aerodynamic...so speed makes a huge difference in gas mileage.

I get 350 miles out of a full tank in my 2006 v6 with 133k miles. I did the HCF mod and it helped about a couple of miles in the mpg's. Changing out spark plugs (if they're old), and a good fuel system cleaning (either in tank or SeaFoam through intake) will also help open up some room and clean out carbon build up, which will give you little better mpg's.

Then again like Zopperman said, if you're worried about mileage, why drive a 4runner :P I come from getting 25-30mpg's all day in a VW and I'm just happy that I don't have to buy 93oct anymore.
 
I'm at 107K. I've done fuel system cleaner, new aftermarket muffler, new spark plugs, air box mod, changed all fluids, etc....didn't help my MPGs AT ALL. Most of that stuff is myth. As long as your truck is healthy and maintained then you're going to get what you're going to get.

Having said that...I do a 50/50 split of city/highway and I can easily get over 17 MPGs on a tank. Plus, I have torque to actually get jobs done unlike my previous V6s. To me, that's pretty damn good. I'm VERY happy with my V8 (except for the manifolds).
 
Thanks guys! I want it to be clear: I don't regret for one sec that I have a nice v8 4tunner with all the things that come along with it!!! I ws just wandering if its normal... Y should I have a v8 and my friend will have the same exact thing and ill get 2-3 mpg less then him???

my 08 v6 used to get 19-20 mpg for about 5 yrs and after installing the K&N instake. I now get about 21 so I stretched about a gal of gas out from a full tank. Guess that's pretty good.

If the trip computer display was showing 17.5 then your actual MPG was probably about 15.5. Just FYI that gauge is notoriously inaccurate, mine always reads at least 2mpg high.

As for the reasons, others have explained it: Your MPG drops like a rock after about 55mph. Keep the CC at 60 and don't drive like a teenager and you will get decent (though not spectacular) MPG.

As for range, I normally get a little over 400 miles on a tank unless I'm pulling our teardrop trailer, and then I get around 350. I've only done one long trip without the trailer, though I have another one coming up at the end of this month so I should have a better 'baseline' then.

Around town I get ~17-18 mpg but you have to consider that in Winter if I'm driving the 4runner it's probably because there is snow and ice on the roads and I'm in 4wd. If the weather's nice I'm in my DD, a Mazda Protege that gets 33mpg.

This^^^^ I have a scanguage which has one of the available gauges set for instantaneous mpg so you can see your consumption right away.... Cruise control on the highway makes a huge difference....

I dunno how you drove when you were a teenage but I have quite a few speeding tickets that would say I shouldn't drive like that....
