Mt Redoubt Erupts!

Redoubt

Yesterday was interesting. Ash about 1 inch thick landed on towns north and east of Anchorage. Flash flood alerts were issued for the valley below the volcano. This all occurred after a dump of 5 inches of fresh heavy snow the day before. So far in Anchorage we have not seen any ash fall. The 4Runner is going underground into the garage at work if we do. AVO is doing a great job and when it blew, everyone was twittered, texted or called. big news up here.

Pics are just coming out now.

Pretty hairy looking! So I gather that you are roughly 100 miles from all this, did you hear any of the explosions? Could you see the ash cloud from Anchorage? Nice pics especially of the ash at 1200x.

the night before the eruption there were some earthquakes that I felt. no sounds and the ash passed west and north. I did not see any of it but the Alaska Daily News had some pictures of it. adn.com.............

Eruption 3/26

Mount Redoubt is currently sending ash southward towards Kenai and Homer after major explosive event at 0924. It is currently 34 degrees in Anchorage. The Beast is getting set up for Anti-Volcano with PIAAs and Yakima basket.

Every day and adventure.

Just when we thought things were settling down Mt. Redoubt erupted sending ash and pumice 4.5 miles into the atmosphere.
Thanks for the update. I ran into an old drinking buddy who recently moved up there to start a gravel business and a couple of mini malls. He lives just across Cook Inlet and his front porch looks right at the volcano. He came down here to check on his printing business and now cant get back home until they reopen the airport, Someone that he lives with is sending him daily quantities of photos from that vantage point and they are really spectacular.

Yes he must have a spectacular view. It is an awesome display. We watch closely the news have our NOAA radios at home and a portable in the 4Runner.

I have been tempted to drive down there and take some pics...... Have the Led Zeppelin and the Camera and N95 masks. I just might......
