My buddy got a DUI and needs to sell his runner
its in okay condition despite some big fender dings and bumper damage
it has like 194,000miles
says i can hav it for a grand
what do you guys think?

Go for it. Even if it needs work, it's a steal at that price. The parts are worth triple that.

That's impossible to answer without seeing the truck and the condition in person.

What maintenance has been done to it and when? Is it 100% original or loaded with replacement wear items like shocks, exhaust, bushings, etc.. How has it been maintained? How often has the oil been changed? Is your friend car knowledgeable or a drive it till it breaks type?

It could be worth $10 or $2000 based on what you are saying.

It is completely stock accept for an amp and a giant 18inch subwoofer
and the tires are also larger
it has had regular services but has also been run hard.
the front end damage is isolated to the bumper and the blinkers inlayed on the bumper his brakes went out and he ran into his neighbor going like 3MPH

My main concern is the mileage
194k seems a little steep
does anyone know how much a motor swap for the same engine just lower mileage would cost
i would assume that people drop out the 4bangers that come with the truck and drop in V6's

May be a lot, but Toyotas do run forever with good maintenance. It will cost you hell to swap in a V6/trans...

Trust me, I wanted to do the swap myself for the availability of a supercharger but it's very costly. If you could do the work yourself, you've still got to change all the exhaust, the motor, the transmission, mounts, harnesses, ecu, and all sorts of stuff.

If the motor blew on me i would just swap in another 4banger
i just would think there would be an excess of them around due to everyone thinking more cylinders =more power
witch is not always the case.

The 4 cylinders are typically. I rarely ever come across them as 4 bangers.
