Muffler/Exhaust Dilemna

Grrrr. I am so damn frustrated with this damn exhaust. So, I just got back from picking the 4runner up. The guy ran new pipe all the way back. Installed a new Magnaflow "Spun" cat. The Magnaflow muffler I already had was re-used. Yet, we ran the exhaust outside the frame right above the axle and out the back PS corner. This extended the exhaust another four feet behind the muffler where it previously just turned down.

F'n thing is louder than it was. Even resonates more at speed. :shaking:

So, basically I am now searching for 2.5"/2.5" round muffler that I can't hear in the cab. I'm over it. I have to tow my pop-up to Moab in a couple weeks and I REFUSE to listen to this thing anymore. I'm just over it.

So, anyone have a line on a quiet 2.5" in 2.5" out muffler that is only around 5" in diameter? Oh, and it needs to be around 20" in length.

I've been searching Summit's site and can't find anything that isn't going to sound the same or worse. This is the one I have:
MagnaFlow 14416 - MagnaFlow Performance Mufflers - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Because of the 4-link rear I don't have room for much else. Clearance is critical.

hey addicted,
have you looked into thread about the tundra resonance silencer?
if your problem is low rumble at hwy speeds then picking up a used one and welding out on might help.

I have a flowmaster and tundra R silencer and the combimation is great. there are other thread on this topic.

good luck

I was lucky enough to find a TRD exhaust used and it has a nice low tone to it, but it isn't loud or annoying at all. I didn't measure the muffler, but I'd say it's about 5-6" in diameter and probably 20-22" long. If you want me to, I can measure it for you tomorrow.

TRD catback comes with a Tundra-style resonator built into it near the exit. Sounds real nice. Although when I rode in a stock muffler'ed 4R not too long ago, I missed the quietness of it. But then again, mine has personality in its squeaks and creaks.:gun6:

I don't have room to add a resonator. I barely have room to replace the Magnaflow in there. I want a quiet, stock sounding exhaust at this point.

Remember, I run a dual triangulated 4-link rear. Gas tank is behind the axle. Exhaust was pretty much impossible to run as is anyway. Let alone with a big muffler.

I will take some pics of what I am dealing with.

This is what I am dealing with.

ooo wow thats all custom guessing the magnaflow is 14'' long so it has to be loud i just cant think of anything that could work theres just no room

I tried a couple of high flow mufflers and straight flow mufflers. I ended up going with a turbo style muffler. The others sounded good but the drone when climbing the mountains and especially when towing. The turbo gives me a low rumble without that drone. I'm not near my 4runner so I can't measure it.

I will look for the. Part # when I get home from work.

I might have the part # for this TRD muffler. There is a video on the last or second to last page of the socal wheelers advice needed thread, that you can here Brians TRD set up. As he climbs past a flopped 2nd gen.

Got room on front of the muffler? Essentially what you're already runnin, just longer and cheaper.
MagnaFlow 18146 - MagnaFlow Glasspack Mufflers - Overview - SummitRacing.com If you do have room. Axe your old muffler and squeeze this in there.

I don't see how that could possibly help. Its a glasspack with less noise reduction than what I have.

Or, are you talking about adding that in as well? If so, no, I don't have room for that.

I may try to somehow get this on

It's 4" round. The muffler you have is 4" round. The muffler you have is a overpriced glasspack.IMO I just thought with the additional length you may loose some resonance. That stubby resonator will probably be fine though. Good luck!

that 8'' glass pack should work id try that first is there room to go over that bumper brace and dump it out ?
