okay, this is a post-swap question ... '95 4x4 AT 3.0 - 186K. the old exhaust looked like it was original equipment, pretty rusted out behind the muffler and the interior of the truck was heating up ... seemed to be some leaks.
i was at the pullapart doing my monthly scavenger hunt and found a junbk truck with a very new looking muffler/tailpipe. pulled it - $10 - and installed it on my truck. it fits fine, exact replacement for the old one.
it's a little louder. obviously, exhaust gas is coming out of the pipe. is there anything is should be checking ? did not notice any gaskete when i removed the old one, the new one was exactly the same mount - used the same bolts, hangers, etc.
i'm assuming that over time the muffler may have gotten restricted, or is that just cat converters.
