Muffler Only?

I have searched the forum for an answer to this question, but havent been able to find one yet, so here gos....

I want to upgrade my exhaust but don't really need the full cat-back system (want to save a bit of $$$). What size/model/series of muffler (Magnaflow preferably) will fit? Also, any advice on where to get one is appreciated. The only thing I hope to gain from this mod is a nice throaty sound.

Thanks.

Hey guys, i know there's got to be more than one person with the "muffler only" MOD. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do a search & you'll find the post I made recently on this topic, although for a 3rd Gen. Briefly, I just had a DynoMax SuperTurbo muffler installed on our '00. Like you, wasn't expecting much seats-of-the-pants out of it; rather I just wanted something that sounded a little more "throaty."

After hearing others complain about the drone assoc. w/ the Vortex & Magnaflow, I decided against them. And I personally don't like Flowmaster due to quality & coating issues I've experienced w/ them in the past. Decided on the Dynomax after hearing several people, incl. a muffler shop, claim they are amongst the quietest turbo mufflers on the market. And they claim to outflow the equivalent Flowmaster model!

Performance-wise, the truck does seem to rev quicker. (It should be noted though, that I had already done the deckplate & intake silencer removal mods.) Re: the exh. note, it was just what we were looking for: non-aggressive at idle & light throttle, but definitely has a nice throaty growl to it at anything over part-throttle. Perfect compromise I think, esp. considering this is the woman's DD.

Hope this helps! Feel free to PM w/ any other questions.

Don't overlook the option of a custom bent cat-back system from a local muffler shop...

If you use a good muffler, and have them do the custom pipes, you can save several hundred bucks over a comparable cat-back mail order system.

Plus you can pick and choose if you want any modifications.

I just had a system done on my truck and used 2.25" pipe from just ahead of the cat to a 14" magnaflow, and 2.5 out of the muffler out the back behind the rear tire with a small chrome tip.

Cost me $130 total. I think he cut me a deal though, but I wouldn't expect to pay that much more for it somewhere else...

i never really thought about that, but it sounds like a good idea.....

only problem is, I'm 400 km from the nearest muffler shop :(

you might be able to do it yoruself with just the muffler, some muffler clamps and a saw.
