im currently running a stock 92 V6 5speed.
just got the cat converter chopped out and replaced with pipe. but, theres a hole in the muffler and now im going to have to get that replaced.

so what kind of muffler are you guys running, and how is the sound? im looking for something real quiet, but yet still sounds louder than stock

(by the way, i've seen an average of 50 to 75 extra kms per tank of fuel... just by removing the cat. im up to about 500kms/tank city driving.)

wow 500km in the city? im down to 300... i think i might have to have my cat cut out here pretty soon if the gains are that much. im not sure what muffler i have, dynomax maybe. when i had it replaced i just asked for something with higher performance and it was only like $20 extra. its prettty loud though.

I was just under my truck tonight trying to take out the Oxygen Sensor, which is in there pretty good due to the rust, I didnt want to round off one of the nuts and then not be able to get the new one in so I'll leave it to a exhaust shop, I might cut the cat out too if I can gain that much, are there any negatives besides emissions?

EDIT: I read another thread and realised that another downside is the exhaust is pretty loud after cutting it out, maybe buy a high flow cat to put in there?

I was looking into getting a Flowmaster 50 series, they are supposed to be a bit more quiet while adding some performance.

Is the stock exhaust piping 2 1/4 on the 2nd gens?

n8buddy... 300kms to a tank in the city? man thats terrible! are you on 33x12 inch tires? im on 31x10.5 5speed everything bone stock.

red- its VERY loud after taking the cat converter out. I think im just going to get a cheap resonator put in there along with a flowmaster or dynomax muffler....new cat converters are expensive man!

i think im going to take it back to the exhaust shop on thursday or friday so i'll let you know what i went with and how it sounds.

If you can afford it pop in a 2 1/2" hi flow cat and hi flow muffler.
A small but noticable power increase and some better economy will come out of it.

I used to get 430km to a tank no matter where I drove.

I now get 460km after the V8 swap on 33 x 12 1/2" claws with the same mufflers.

The V6 will respond well to a better flowing exhaust.

cheers

thanks for the input struth. Im going to go with a generic exhaust resonator instead of a new cat. the flow characteristics should be the same between the two, except the resonator is 1/4 the price.

so anyone out there thinking of removing the cat; be warned: its stupid loud. and not even a good loud. like "tractor" loud
