Hi I got a 01 sr5 and I hate the way it sounds. I'm looking to upgrade, I want something that sounds meaner, but I do a lot if hi way miles. Any suggestions? I know squat about this topic hahaha

This ? Has been answered this week here at least twice now.. But since you asked too, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, and I suggested Spintech to another member who wants to make some noise... Its really personal opinions.. Pick a muffler you like, not one that someone else likes. That's all I can say besides I have a flowmaster on mine and the more I hear it, the more it sounds like shit trying to pull a V8 sound off the 3.4.. Its not badd bad but I am really wanting a Gibson or TRD or something that muffles and not just amplifies sound.

Ya this is like the third muffler thread in as many days. Word of advice, if you do a lot of highway driving, you don't want a 14" Magnaflow...it'll get old fast. I'd go with either an 18" (I have one) or a 24". Both sound better than stock, but don't drone too much on the interstate.

Sweet that's what I needed to know millerad, I'm not trying to get it to sound mean, just not as ball less as it sounds now. I read the other ones but no one layed it down in layman's terms. I'll scour the threads prior to posting my next question. Thanks a lot !

Have you checked Borla? That's what I'm probably gonna end up goin with. They sound clean and throaty but seem quieter on low rpm/throttle and that's what I want.

i went with a flowmaster super44 and I really like it. it wasn't too expensive either, I got it from amazon for around $75

Yes, COB had some issues with his Magnaflow. However, I think it has been established that the 18" and 24" are built differently internally than the model he had problems with.
I've had mine for over a year, off-road and daily driving and haven't had a single problem. It has a lifetime warranty on it, and the guy who installed it said to come back if I ever had a problem and he'd take care of it.

Thats good its working out. I have actually seen a lot of people have issues on Jeeps, toyotas, Domestic vehicles with maganflow on trail rigs. A few hits and it breaks up the inside. I just avoid them on trail rigs due to that issue, I dont care about lifetime warranty if you have to keep replacing it.
But for the street I love the sound. The straight through design makes for some nice turbo sounds.
From my own research actually looking at various Magnaflow mufflers, the models with a case length in excess of 18", have a poorly joined two-piece internal tube design. It's that poorly joined two-piece tubing that fails in the longer case Magnaflow's.
A 24" Magnaflow (at least the ones I inspected) is designed to fail.
An 18" Magnaflow like I ended up with, (specifically the #11255 model) has a much more durable single piece internal tube design.

So maybe I had it backwards...the 14" and 18" are good to go, the 24" fail...
