Multi-Function Switch Malfunction?? Blinker & RPM's

Ok so off of this portion I can say that I installed everything but my head unit on my runner and except for my cb radio in my ashtray location, everything else has its own ground on the battery terminal. The cb is attached to the 12v outlet power and ground. I'm not sure about the radio but i can check.

My CB is tapped to the same location. But the the CB radio itself has an on/off feature and stays off until I need it. Plus, I've had it installed for a very long time now. Would be very weird for it to be the cause.

Same here. We probably have the same radio. It turns on and off without issue. I didn't have as much free time as I thought I would have this weekend so I'm going to try to work on it if I get off work early this week.

Have you swapped the 3rd brake light to LED?

I noticed these problems after swapping the 3rd brake light to an LED bulb (Also changed the turn signals at same time)
When the truck is running and I use the turn signal it causes the 3rd brake light to blink with the turn signal(truck must be running to see if this happens)
I believe this causes the ECU to think the brakes are being applied therefore canceling the Cruise Control

Through my search I have found that the trailer wiring harness could be the culprit. Apparently the little conversion box needed for our truck to give a 4 pin signal can go bad causing a short in the line. This is where the faulty signal may be coming from.

One other issue I have noticed is that when using the hazard lights or turn signal the 3rd brake light blinks as well as the actual brake lights but very dimly. Turning the lights on will stop the tail lights from blinking but not the 3rd brake light.

I have replaced all of the halogen bulbs with led bulbs. I believe this began happening when I swapped the 3rd (have been too lazy to swap it back but will do it tonight to try and solve the issue for you guys)

I swapped my third when I put my new tails on. Man if this solves it I seriously owe you a beer.

Nope, mine is factory and regular halogen bulbs.

Alright guys it has nothing to do with the LED Bulbs

The tail light convertor box for the trailer light plug is the culprit.

Unplugging the convertor box plugs and reinstalling the plug as they would have been from the factory has solved all my issues (Blinking 3rd and Cruise Control Canceling)

The plugs are located behind 1/4 panel covers directly behind the tail lights.

Guess I will be hardwiring a 7 pin in sooner than I thought.

This issue also explains the fact that when a trailer was plugged in the trailer lights would only blink with my turn signals when I was hitting the brakes

Ha ok, so thinking about this for just a few minutes more I think I got it. Remove the trailer plug from the wires connecting to the tail light and re connect it so the wires are only going to the tail light.

Yes sir that's all you have to do.

Cruise now works fine and doesn't cancel with turn signal use

I'll definitely have to look into the trailer wiring.. I have a plug that's tapped in, but it's just a 4-way.

That's an interesting one. My factory trailer light converter has a 'broken' left turn signal function (only flashes for maybe 1/10th of a second), but doesn't seem to have affected anything else on the truck.

Now my abs light is on. Did I do it incorrectly? Is it a physical plug that comes apart or the black box that splits the wire that you have to cut the wires to remove? Hopefully I didn't do any long term damage...

All you need to do for the initial test is just unplug the trailer light box. If it is an OEM harness, you can remove the rest of the harness completely by tracing the wiring back and removing the 'insert' plugs that go between the factory body harness and the tail light stub harness.

You can see it here, the extra white connectors can be removed and the harness to the light converter removed. There should be no soldering or anything:

(you'll have to trace back to the other side tail light to remove the harness on that side, though it is similar - also, the pre '99 box mounts on the passenger side instead of the driver's side - same type of setup though)

Ok so here is what my box looks like...

And you can't really see it but the wires don't have plugs they simply go straight into the box.
This is where I cut and spliced the wires together on the truck side

I assumed the 4 wires out the top was the stock wires looping through so that's why I connected them. Side note the turn signal issue is fixed! But now abs light is on. Any ideas?

Yeah I figured but it appeared to be stock when I pulled the harness out. Same tape and clips holding it to the body of the runner as the rest of the stuff I've messed with. I really can't see why this would have thrown the abs light, But it did cure my blinker issue. Maybe it's time to bring El Durko into this... [MENTION=10169]TheDurk[/MENTION]

Well, at least it fixed the issue.. You might just need to reset the ecu or the "system"

Try taking the negative battery terminal off for a minute and then put it back on. See what it does.
