I 100% believe that. The flat round bar up top has nothing to disrupt turbulence. So it makes more noise and likely to whistle. The light bar makes the air flow differently which equals less noise.

If you look back at round bar Yakima setups they made a little fin that would clip onto the bar to clean up the air and make it quieter.

here I found a photo of this. I am sure it would work on the Gobi rack also to cut down on some noise.

You mind telling me what you're using?

I used CarPro CQuartz Ceramic. I recently used Cquarts EXO V4 on my wife's new Accord and am very happy with it. Much easier application and more gloss IMO. I use CarPro reload to keep the coating looking its best.

Not to go in huge detail but the prep work is the most important. Properly correcting the imperfections in the paint prior to coating the vehicle gets the best results.

Im going with the multi light setup next time, I have the single row light bar mounted on the Gobi rack now and hate the way the light reflects off the hood. Way too bright at night.

Wrap a rope around it similar to what you see on some vehicle antennas. This should eliminate the noise.
Mine doesn’t make any noise, maybe because it’s not smooth due to the Line-X.

I have only run my rack with this 40" bar installed. I have not experienced any whistle or extra noise with it in this location..

Having it here, I do lose some light output because of the deflector, but a bonus has been no excess reflection off the hood when it is on.

I just installed my rack (made for the 40" light bar) and now ready to tackle the light bar. Can you guys point me to a how to install guide. Interested in how the wiring is run up to the roof and where you guys install switches ect. on a 2018 TRD Off Road

Questions about Gobi Stealth

I have been looking at Gobis for my 2016 SR5. I stumbled upon this thread while researching, and I LOVE some of the set-ups.

4RUNNER (2010-2020 | 5th GEN) Archives - Gobi Racks

I want to:
- Use a Tepui hard shell roof tent
- Use a 1Up USA hitch-mount bike rack
- Have a multi-light system on rack (preferably on corners)
- Probably use a faring

Questions:

1) I am not seeing the stealth (no front riser bar) option on the website. Is that a "must call" feature?

2) Do the stealth racks still make it easy to put multi-light setups on top?

3) Are there mounts to put directional spots on the back corner(s)?

4) Are there better light options than the Gobi branded ones?
- I want to have one central light in front, one directional on each front corner, and maybe one on a back corner

5) Is it tricky self-installing the lights? In terms of running power?

6) Am I taking on too much hoping to install all this myself? (I'm pretty handy, but I've never tackled this sort of thing)

I didn't really like them as they sat too low when using for out RTT. I picked up some Yakima Rail Grabs and round bars so I could get my hands underneath it.

2) Do the stealth racks still make it easy to put multi-light setups on top? Yes, if you order the multiple light configuration they have plates in between the vertical support bars.

3) Are there mounts to put directional spots on the back corner(s)? Yes, they have the mounting spots like the front, but only on the corners.

4) Are there better light options than the Gobi branded ones?
- I want to have one central light in front, one directional on each front corner, and maybe one on a back corner On their site I'm only seeing Rigid brand. Rigid is one of the top brands out here. Another brand to consider would be Baja Designs.

5) Is it tricky self-installing the lights? In terms of running power? Not terribly tricky, no. There are a few ways to do it, but you could just run the wiring down the A-pillar (underneath the trim) and down into the engine bay. Run the rear light wiring down the length of the rack and down the A-pillar the same.

6) Am I taking on too much hoping to install all this myself? (I'm pretty handy, but I've never tackled this sort of thing) Installing the rack is easy. Remove the old rack, put in 2 bolts per foot of the Gobi, lift it on top and snug it down. The wiring won't be that bad.

I went 2 Rigid SR series. I honestly wanted to do 4 across, but I have the no rise option and could not figure out a good mounting option unless I got a custom bar made and welded on. I chose separate lights due to different spread options.
I said the same thing in the beginning that I would not put lights on the rack. But here I am.

I'm obviously not Texas TJ, but when I ordered my Gobi 3 years ago, it was an extra $150 to go with no-rise so it wouldn't surprise that they're still charging to go with the no-rise.

I'm not Texas TJ either, however I just ordered one and it was indeed $200 extra for no rise. I manged to get them to keep the ladder and the struts in trade for the $200

$300 for the ladder and $125 for the struts new. Feel you could of made back the $200, but the hassle might be worth not taking them.

Who did you buy through? When I bought mine through Trail Duty they did not charge extra for no ride.

I bought direct from Gobi. They're also going to install it for me since I'm local.


I agree they could have credited me more or I could have sold it, but honestly I didn't want the hassle of trying to sell it and maybe ship it.

I just looked at my invoice, and I did pay $150 for the no rise option. However, I ordered through Trail Duty, and they gave a $45 discount (I don't remember why), making it $105 option for me. For my use, I wouldn't even consider the rise option.

I'm still adamant on recommending getting it bare steel and having it coated by anywhere other than whoever Gobi uses. It is very thin, thankfully I don't live in a rusty state.

After reading this thread a few times, I’m thinking I might want to change my order. I currently have a stealth, no-rise, light bar option. I’m in my 12th week. Do you think I can call and change to a multi-light setup?

I think I prefer the two vertical bars and I’ll probably never get a light bar. I opted for light at initially not knowing the two vertical post would be deleted.

I’ll give them a call tomorrow. I’m sure they haven’t even started my rack
