Murder Suspects Describe Two Killings in $2 Robbery

The men arrested in the slayings of an aspiring Christian singer and his colleague at a Texas recording studio said in a chilling jailhouse interview the victims were killed at random in a robbery that netted only $2.

Cousins James Broadnax and Demarius Dwight Cummings, both 19, face capital murder charges in the deaths of singer Matthew Butler, a father of two, and Stephen Swan, his employee, outside Butler's Christian recording studio, Zion Gate Records in Garland, Texas.

Broadnax and Cummings, speaking to MyFOXDFW.com from the Dallas County Jail, told the station of their plans to rob somebody the night of June 18. They traveled by train from Dallas to the suburb of Garland because "that's where all the rich white folks stay at," Broadnax said.

Their targets turned out to be Butler, 28, and Swan, 26.

"I made sure they was dead," Broadnax told MyFOXDFW.com

His voice wavering, Broadnax recounted in blood-curdling detail how he shot the men to death in a parking lot outside the recording studio after Cummings asked for a cigarette.

"I just blanked the f--- out," Broadnax said. "I shot him [Butler] and he stumbled back. I shot the driver [Swan]. He hit the ground, you know what I'm saying, but he leaned up like he was going to try to get back up, so I shot him in the head.

"Then his homeboy, I shot his a-- again, you know what I'm saying, but he was still trying to run off," he continued. "I knew he was going to die anyway, but just to make sure

$2 should be enough to buy a .50 caliber slug that should be embedded deeply into each of their thick skulls.


I think we now have the new poster children for capital punishment.

For a crime like this with confession and zero remorse, why do we even bother with the judicial process. Once that type of statement is recorded, they should be "taken care of" on the spot. Why over crowd the prison system.

Yup, it's crime like this that i wish we were more barbarian...eye for an eye justice. Whatever happened to tying up people in the middle of town and stoning them to death?? Or cut up their fingers one by one?? There is not much fear these days among criminals....

BTW, we had an argument in another thread about crime in rich vs. poor neighborhood. Well, in this case, these criminals took the train out to the upscale neighborhood because "that's where all the rich white folks live."

"Okay. Let's give him a fair trial and then hang him."

The sad part is that the state will have to spend more money executing those cretins than if they kept them alive in prison for the next 40+ years.

An creative alternative, of course, may be to let them reside in the same cell block as the Aryan Brotherhood. (Had they been white, I would suggest some private quality time with the Nation of Islam prisoners.)

In this instance when the suspect confessed or is convicted of their crimes, the victims family should be given the option of carry out their punishment, unless they believe that "an eye for an eye" isn't justice, then leave it up to the DA/government.

I'll be surprised if there isn't a good number families out who are victims of horrific crimes that wouldn't want to carry out the sentence themselves.

I never quite understood why.

Just put them on a transpacific or transatlantic flight and drop them out of the cargo-hold. The fishies need to eat too.

I've heard in one country, when the convicted is sentenced to death by firing squad, the tab for the bullets is sent to the family of the executed. Bill the family for executing their useless "loved one".

I love the judicial system in our country...

Man, I love the judicial system in our country... Even after the confession, that was freely given by these s*&mbags, a court appointed attorney (or some hot-shot that will take this case pro-bono) will argue before the jury of 12 idiots - excuse me - peers, that these animals were not loved by their fathers, or did not know who their fathers were, and that lack of "fatherly"love caused them to shoot 2 innocent people.

After that, the jury of 12 idiots - pardon again - peers, will feel REALLY REALLY bad for these 2 boys, that were abused and neglected as children, and will find them guilty of a manslaughter, or perhaps, a negligent homicide, and will sentence them to 10 years in prison , and they will be out on parole in 3.

Its always interesting to see how easy some humans will kill and others it takes being pushed to extreme limits, or so they say. They should be let free and the families should be able to hunt them down just like they did those two. I had to chuckle a little when they threw in the comment about them being aspiring christian singers- like that makes one bit of difference...

Very sad story - my prayers go out to the families of the victims. The only good news is that they're in a state with the death penalty.

I'm not sure, but didn't that comment refer to the victims rather than the perpetrators?


Still, though, I don't think it matters much. Even if the victims were Satanists, murder is still murder in my book.
