Music Keg Install

Well I finally got around to installing my music keg. Since I have the factory NAV, and there seems to be no fully integrated solution just yet, I decided to go with a wired FM modulator from Kenwood. After alot of contemplation about where to mount the display for the modulator, I decided to try a location that I hadn't seen anyone try yet, and see how it works out. The install went very smoothly thanks to the great walkthroughs on this site. Here are some pics of the install.

I know this is a horrible pic, but this is where I mounted the keg under the passenger's seat.

By the way, I was surprised how well the modulator actually sounded. I was expecting it to be ok at best, but it really sounds good.

Hey, how did you actually mount that control unit... velcro? Epoxy? Duct tape? Quickcrete? Looks very clean!!!! I like it.

Yeah thats my one concern, being in plain sight like that. The quickrete holds real well though. Actually I used the 3M doublesided stuff just to see how it would work out, and so far it hasn't moved a bit.

Hmmmm..... maybe this can help you out?

Attach it with velcro?
Use a spot of super glue to hold a very small piece of velcro on the steering column or dash (whereever you currently have the tape) and a bigger piece on the control unit. Also glue a small patch under the steering wheel column so that you can just rip it off the top velcro and stick it to the underneath velcro when you leave the vehicle. That wouldn't take any more time than removing a detachable head unit. I've used small pieces of velcro before to hold thins on my jeep temporarily and it works well, but only if you attach it with superglue. Anything less than that and the velcro piece will rip right off the surface when you try to remove the item.

I don't think you'll be punished, grounded, or arrested for doing it, at least not in Mass, if that's what you mean by "bad"... I've put superglue on my plastic dash before and it didn't generate a nuclear blast or anything...

Nice install, Thornton. Do you have to reach through the wheel to access the controls? Kind of fun in corners, isn't it?
