Mute on steering Wheel

nope it doesn't and it sucks!!! bastards could have done something there. the only thing you can do is push the mode button for 2 seconds or so and the radio goes into limp mode. push the mode button gain and it resumes. takes to long for something quick though.okkin said:

It temprarily switches the radio off, but if you press it again the CD will come striaght back on, which means it is not fully powered down. Just try it for yourself.okkin said:

Mode button for on/off
Hold the mode button on the steering wheel control and it will turn the radio off. Push again, and it turns it on. I use the power button on ht e head unit to quickly shut it off. It's instant On/Off so it's about the same as a mute button would be. You just have to reach for it.
I wish they had put the cruise functions on the right side of the wheel. What's up with the dead plastic covers there?

Yup a mute button would have been nice. Like ToolMan said, they could have utilized the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel.

The reason for the cutouts on the right side of the steering wheel is because Toyota and Lexus uses the same wheel. On some Toyota models and all Lexus models equipped with the navigation system, the bottom cutout on the right is for the voice button. On the LX470 and LS430, the two other cutouts are used for the built in cell phone. Lexus also has that stick on the side of the steering wheel for cruise control.

actually, I really like the cruise control the way it is. I previously had it on the steering wheel on my last vehicle. I think this works much better for me. never had a problem w/ it. it's always where I think it should be. I like the fact that it turns w/ the steering wheel. I can mess w/ it w/o letting go of the wheel on the highway! Just my opinion, tho...

Yup I like where it is too. Thats how my old celica had it and I've just grown acustom to it's location.

What I would like to have seen there is the climate control functions. Mirror the stereo controls -
opposite the volume, put fan speed -
opposite the <>, put the temp up/down-
opposite the mode button, put another mode button that changes where the output come from (head/feet/def)

I agree that the 4runner interior lights and controls can be a little better however, I will give credit where credit is due.
I compared the interior lights and controls to my vw jetta and one thing I believe is better in the 4runner are the controls on the steering wheel.
On the jetta, all it has is the volume and up and down arrows that perform the seek feature of the radio. With the 4runner, you can actually change modes and the up and down arrows actually cycle through your saved stations rather than performing a seek on the radio. More intuitive if you ask me.
Although I wish they would combine all the good features of European cars and Japanes cars, then we would have a perfect interior!
