Yep it was time for new tires. Got the same type and size as the old ones (boring), 5 years and 50some thousand miles out of my last set. Not too bad? I was tempted and could fit Duratrac 285's but 3 factors came into play in my decision not to go bigger. Economy, gas prices and I am a poser.
I have been very satisfied with the performance of the Goodyear ATS tires. Had em on my previous vehicle as well and this past set was drama free. $809 and they put the best old one on the spare.
I also took it for an alignment - a good idea after and tire change or suspension work. It was almost a 1/2 inch off - I had removed my top out spacer. I took it to a friend who works on hot rods and old cars - Richard Stark (it filtered his real name ha?) if your in the Daytona area he's in the book. Some alignment shops work only to spec and won't mess with lifted rigs. This one is far from stock. OME and Camburg UCA's.
285's were so tempting. I get 19-20mpg around town with this size tire - according to the in cab computer. I don't want any less just to gain little more clearance (that I don't need). No hard core wheeling for this PQ. I do drive on the beach and don't shy away from dirt or gravel roads. I drive it and treat it like a truck - just no mudbogs.
I only have 65,500 miles on the rig. The 8 mile commute to work is done on the bicycle or TW.
She sits pretty much dead nuts level.
