My 04 limited Build

Well I suppose Its time to Do a build thread forgive my ignorance if I mess something up . Short story of how I got my 4runner . I had a 2008 tundra I had done a few things to I liked it a lot but was too nice as well as too big to take offroad . I found out after I decided to run a trail with it and quickly caught the itch to wheel .In June 2013 I got fired from my job and started a small business working from home, well to free up some money I sold the tundra with the intentions of eliminating a car payment, lowering insurance and better gas mpgs.(age 21 paying 230$ a month insurance on tundra )

That being said I've always been a die hard Toyota guy First truck was an 86 long bed 2wd pickup, then a 91 4x4 ext cab, then a 2005 prerunner, and then the 08 tundra . Soooo what to buy..... I really liked my prerunner tacoma but sold mainly because it was 2wd so searched for tacomas and they were just as much as my tundra so that eliminated them as a choice. Meanwhile searching around I noticed how well equipped the 4runners were and how cheap they were in comparison to tacoma along with v8 option limited package etc . I narrowed it down to exactly what I wanted which was a limited v8 nothing else ,So i set off looking all over for one and finally found one in Maryland about 3 hrs from me that had everything I wanted and this one had fresh timing belt and water pump done at toyota, a new set of 285 duratracs on it and a freshly installed icon stage 1 setup was stoked to find one with this already done! So I jumped on it .

Looking good so far sir :yo: Don't forget that because of the sale of that Tundra, and the search for a 4runner, is why you landed in a cool lounge of a place. With cool, not to mention helpful people... :tea:

The very first weekend I had it me and my buddy went down to nc to drive out on the beach had a blast !
<a href="http://s1273.photobucket.com/user/Woodsblaster86/media/My%204runner/image_zpsb5a5a3ab.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/y406/Woodsblaster86/My%204runner/image_zpsb5a5a3ab.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image_zpsb5a5a3ab.jpg"/></a>

Once I got it home I first took it to the dealer to have the tranny fluid and filter changed I had a serious coupon only paid 85$ to have it done was worth it to me . I then changed my motor oil and both diffs and the coolant . Shortly after I ordered a new set of plugs and installed along with a K&N drop in filter and did the carbon filter mod . I also removed the plastic engine cover and all surrounding insulation in an effort to reduce un necessary heat .

Next up I had my buddy help me do the BHLM and we stumbled on also doing the foglights havent seen where anyone else had done that heres pics of that

before

Next cheap mod was to mount some mag lights
<a href="http://s1273.photobucket.com/user/Woodsblaster86/media/My%204runner/image_zps22dcba6a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1273.photobucket.com/albums/y406/Woodsblaster86/My%204runner/image_zps22dcba6a.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image_zps22dcba6a.jpg"/></a>

Then came the first big purchase Rci had a moving sale and I couldnt help myself so purchased the full set of skids from them . Customer service was excellent great communication extremely fast shipping and no hassle mounting them up everything went where it was supposed to no fudging grinding or cursing required managed to install by myself with a floor jack

Thanks I've always kind of wanted one my buddy has a 4th gen which is the one pictured on the beach next to mine. I had the tundra and I had a jeep at the same time the jeep was more or less just to do trails with, however insurance on another vehicle just to play with occasionally was killing me and driving it 3-5 hrs to a trail was rough .I took the tundra on a trail once and it was just too big and got the itch to offroad more so it all worked out . I love the 4runner in comparison to the tundra more interior feature heated leather seats sunroof better mpgs still got a v8 and can cruise to the trails and back no worries and less than half the price of the tundra .

Which ebay seller did you buy the coolant cap from? Thanks.

not sure i can look but honestly its cheap it come with a cap and the sticker and the cap didnt even fit so i put the sticker on the stock cap ... oil fill cap is better it fit still have to put sticker on yourself but for 10$ figured why not

Very nice truck, love the lift that it already had, and not a lot of blue ones, I almost bought blue when I got my Shadow Mica. Very nice truck, can't wait to see what else you do, also love the license plate :bowl:

Light racing Uppers came in few days ago and got to install them today Im not the most mechanically experienced person however am pretty inclined from working on motorcycles and these went on with ease glad I did it myself vs paying someone else to do it. My opinion of the lr uppers vs is stock ? Im very impressed if you look at the photos stock isnt even tubing like I assumed it was the lrs are really beefy compared to stock .I have the new updated lr uppers so hopefully I wont have the notorious bushing failure . Also ditching the front sway bar tomorrow while I have it up on stands , also sanding and painting calipers and tocuhing up some other places where some surface rust has started .

While Truck was on stands and the weather 70 degrees ( 7 days away from christmas ) I figured Id take advantage of the nice weather and go ahead and address the rusting calipers . I went to my local parts store picked up some loctite brand rust remover ( never researched any kind of brand vs another just picked one) and a can of paint. First i took a wire brush and removed the heavy surface rust , then applied the product as per instructions let sit for about 10 min rinse and repeat as necessary. I was really suprised how well the product worked I had to repeat about 3-4 times but it did strip the rust right to bare metal as its supposed to . I ran out of day light to start painting will continue .

Below are pics of before and after of the product

Products used

Now the naval jelly didnt get the surface to paint ready condition but it has saved a ton of sanding and wire brushing and with little work will be ready to be painted thats as far as I got today.
Everything painted and put back on alignment was way off played with the uppers just a little bit to get it bearable to drive to The alignment shop ready to hit the trails! heres the finished look

How do you like the Icon's?

I love them very plush Smooth on road smooth offroad but have good bottoming resistance there's a set of train tracks local in an industrial park that Ive discovered if you hit just right you become airborne .... that being said i can jump the track with ease Im about 2-2 and half feet off the ground and it just feels good when you land like it wants more I love it , had ranchos readylift , and procomp satge 2 susp both setups on my tundra and they were good but cant touch this setup .

I ordered my Bay area metal fab sliders during the 30% off thanksgiving sale which was sweet ! got them with the kickout for little over 300$ shipped per set ( buddy got a set as well) and they showed up today waiting on warmer temps ( currently 15 degree high today ) to bedline and weld up. Going to be using Rustoleum Brand aerosol bedliner used it on a recent project and really like how well it goes on.

Also another update Ive converted all the interior lights to led really like the setup much clearer and brighter :lightsaber: went with a cheap set of eaby from the seller yitamotor they had good reviews and the only bad reviews I saw they chimed in and mentioned they had tried to help but buyer was not responding etc so got the full interior kit for 13.49 shipped and received them 2 days later and came with 3 extra dome lights ! technically enough extra to do someone elses domes . So next ill be ordering the reverse lights and maybe some more also got the license plate leds as well.and for 13.50 shipped you cant go wrong cant speak for durability/ longevity but they work great right now . Nice cheap easy mod got all installed in 10 min in the dark while it was snowing super easy.

And lastly for those of you who have read my story I may be getting a job soon so will feel better about spending my money if so bumpers and roof rack are in the near future!

Been a while since I posted I got a job recently but its about a 45 minute commute one way and 200$ a week in gas in the runner was killing me so I got a matrix to drive to work getting roughly 36-37 mpgs in it I like it but took a lot of mod money away from the runner .As with everything else ( its a disease) Cant leave anything stock got a thule rack for it and some rota 17" wheels . Really happy with the car great for quick weekend camping trips saves tons in gas
