My '06 4R delayed 10 days...Annoyed

This is starting to get annoying.

Originally, the fleet manager told me I would get my 4R within a matter of days of placing the order (like 2-3 days). This was the last week of April.

Then, after not being able to get a hold of him for a week, I was finally able to find out that the vehicle would hit port on the 13th and be ready the 17th.

Well, I called around 6pm on the 17th, surprises I hadn't heard from him, and he tells me the vehicle that he thought was mine is really a V6 instead of a V8. And, my V8 will not be hitting the port until the 25th and not be ready probably until after Memorial Day weekend.

I was planning on taking a big road trip in the new car over Memorial Day weekend, and this is pretty annoying. I really hoped my first new-car purchase would have gone a lot more smoothly than this.

That sucks. Well, it wll only make you appreciate the 4runner more with this delay. I wonder if you can make this an advantage by asking the dealer to throw in a few options/accessories (minor stuff, not big $$ stuff) because they failed to live up to their promise. Worth a try.

I could have done a 10 day delay in my sleep! Try waiting near 5 months & still not getting what you originally ordered!

Like LSUMBA, I special ordered an 06 Limited V-8 4X4, and waited 140 days before it arrived. I would drive to the dealership occasionally just to see if it might have arrived and they forgot to tell me... just wishful thinking.

After 90 days, I started thinking maybe I could live with one off the lot, but there was nothing exactly as I wantd. Let me tell you, getting a new truck just like you want it, in the color you want, equipped just as you want it, and with only 2 miles on the odometer, is priceless.

I had several small trips planned that I thought I would get to make in the 4Runner, but they were made in my old car instead. Then I totaled my old car, and I had to wait 8 weeks before the new truck arrived. Thank goodness for some friends who have too many cars and don't care if I borrow one!

Well, the new one is here now, and it was well worth the wait. I bet you will feel the same way too when yours gets here. Good Luck.

Also, it is probably better that you not take a brand new truck on a long road trip. I was going to do that with mine when I got it, but I decided not to drive more than 60 miles away from home at a constant speed until I had at least 1000 miles on it.

I would never believe what anyone says at the dealer in the first place. I take whoever manager and whatever they say with a grain of salt. Unless it's on paper and they sign it, whatever they say or promise is as good as vapor. Come on now, the fleet manager is hard to get a hold of? Pfft, he's more than likely avoiding having to talk to the customers that he "promised" certain things to. I say screw with their minds and play the same game. Leave him messages that you found the exact model you want at a lower price or show up at the dealer (he'll probably be b*llsh*tting with his coworkers at the water cooler). When you show up in person unannounced and catch him, it's a sight to see when they start sh*tting bricks.

It was funny when I would drop in unannounced. Since they had not seen my face that much (I dealt with them mostly via phone & e-mail), they did not even know who I was or what I was talking about. When I told them, they conveniently could not find anyone I needed to talk to.

What part of Texas are you in?? Heck most of the dealers in the DFW area have tons of 4Runners, wonder if another dealer around you has the one you want already??

I'm in Houston.

The biggest problem is finding a 4Runner that is 1) Shadow Mica 2) V8 Sport Edition 3) 4WD and 4) has a sunroof.

There are a few around, but at this point I'd rather just wait for the one that is ordered for me.

If I get yanked around again, I might change my tune.

Two to three days to locate your 4Runner, sounds more like a trade and/or the 4R is already on the lot of another dealer within a hundred miles or two. I know how the wait can get agonizing. Like a few of our members here, my 4R was ordered as well. It took a little over three months to get it. Waited a month and a half to find out Toyota accepted my configuration change request. From then no word of when the 4R would arrive until about a week before delivery that it was on that allocation. I wish there was a better way of to keep track of when an "ordered" Toyota would arrive. I almost gave up on waiting for it and was going to go with the typical configurations for my region. But I finally got it and in the end, the wait was very worth second of it and it only had one mile on it after getting a full tank of gas. It was the lowest mileage vehicle my rep ever sold. My Tacoma had two miles on it when it was delivered, which was also ordered.

Hang in there, it'll be worth it in the end. I'm glad I waited, so I don't have ask myself "what if".

Thats all they sale around here. You can't find a 2wd, not that I'd want one.
