My '06 is getting a new cat

catalytic converter, that is.

Last week after coming home from an errand, I noticed a pretty strong sulfur odor after parking in the garage. I've known about this 4Runner issue since I bought the truck, thanks to this blog site. I had downloaded and printed the Toyota TSB on the problem (EG005-06).

Today I took my 4Runner to the local dealership, Kendall Toyota, for the 10,000 mile service. I gave the service advisor a copy of the TSB and went to the waiting room. 20 minutes later the service advisor came out and told me that they ordered the new cat converter parts and would be ready to install them in a week, no charge.

I'm very impressed that there was absolutely no hassle to get this done.

I know there have been many earlier threads on this, but I want to know from those of you that have had the new cat converter installed, has that solved the hydrogen sulfide/sulfur dioxide odor problem?
I'd appreciate any feedback you can give me. Thanks.

Got mine replaced a few months after I bought it (new). Lots of parts involved, and very expensive if not under warranty.

Solved the sulfur stink for me.

had the same problem my cat was replaced all free within 1month of owning it sulfur smell did go away for most part but still comes back every now and then under hard acceleration do have that as well or is ur 100% gone?

Mine will be getting done soon, as this is only covered to 80,000 miles and mine has 79,000 on it!

Had this TSB performed today. Glad it was under warranty, it was $2,000.00.

I need to talk to the dealer again. They told me that are '05 sport V8 had the updated cats. Yet, if I give the runner anymore than 1/4 throttle it stinks to high hell!!! I would love to get a straight answer out of someone.

You would be amazed at the difference it makes! Mine smelled so bad I didn't even want to put the windows down. My friend is an advisor at Camelback. I will ask him about the V8 and let you know.

My check engine light came on this morning. Code was for an o2 sensor. Took it back to the dealership and they replaced it for free. Not sure if it was related to the cat or not, but it was free. They said it was under warranty.
