My 4Runner is no longer a DD!

So I decided to buy my sister's '05 Honda CRV today for my new DD! It has 105K miles, it's 2wd, and it has a new Honda tranny that was installed under warranty at 99K (and the new tranny still has another 30K on it's seperate warranty).

The best part is, now my 4Runner is a dedicated trail/camping/snowy day/dump run rig! And now that I'll probably only be putting about 2 or 3K/year on it instead of 15K/year, I think it will last many more years than it would have! Here's a pic of the new "babe catcher", haha:

I put a hefty deposit down on a CBI rear tire-carrier bumper last week (which won't be done until ~ August) and I also got 4 255/85R16s and 4 Cragar Soft 8 black wheels with the insurance $$. The check is spent and I'll have to put up about $500 out-of-pocket to pay the balance left on the bumper, but all in all, I think I did pretty good with the funds. The tires I have on the 4runner now still have ~95-98% tread left so I'll probably sell them on CL and pay off the bumper with that $. I wanted to go to 255s for a little more ground clearance and also they're "D" rated tires so they will ride a little softer than the "E" rated tires I have now. I got new wheels with .65" less BS'ing so they will stick out just as far and my track width will stay the same as it is now with my 285s.

A SAS might be in the future for the runner, but not anytime real soon since I'll be paying on the new car for the next couple years. I'm really stoked because the CRV gets 23-25 mpg (as opposed to my 16 mpg in the runner) and I can still load it up with band gear, people, or whatever else!

Yeah I for sure want to see the bumper! CBI does a very nice job of building really cool, functional bumpers! I will probably steal some design ideas from it to try and build my own!

Good choice-Honda ownership is a delight. They are not so smug like many Yota dealers- and properly maintained will run forever just like our Runners.

Thanks Ron. Years ago I had a Honda Civic and along with my 3rd gen, it was the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. When I was visiting my mom yesterday for Mother's Day, she happened to mention that my sister was trying to sell it so I gave her a call and BAM. I feel really good about buying it and she (or should I say my Dad) maintained it very well. I was thinking about asking him if I get the "maintenance plan" too! LOL. Like that would ever happen, when I go over there, I end up working on his cars!
