My 4Runner's REALLY got issues.

Ok, so the problems got worse. At times when stopping at a stop sign, I would give the tranny time to think about which gear it should be in before I hit the gas. When I do decide on accelerating and cars behind me aggrivatively honk their horns, my engine will not even rev nor go. When it decides to go, it'll only get up to 4th gear on the highway. I know that because my rpms will go up to 4000 at 60 mph. So, I decide to take it to the dealer. They diagnosed it with a f*cked up transmission. So it wasn't me, I knew it wasn't normal but had high hopes. They will replace it and hopefully I get it back at the end of the week. They gave me a Durango as a loaner but it just isn't the same as my 4runner...

Sorry, that just stinks. But you're not the first with a bad transmission:

These problems seem rare. Hopefully you'll get your truck back soon (or a new truck). I ditched my last car for a 4Runner because of transmission problems.

Now this is scaring me. You think if and when I get my truck back, with the new transmission, it'll perform better or is this going to be a permanent flaw, like it won't perform like it should? In other words, should I ditch my truck or try to trade? Thanks for your response.

How many miles have you had the truck, how long? In Maryland you can cancel your purchase contract after delivery. I can't remember the time or mileage. But is is short, maybe a few days and 100 miles (or less).


If the transmissoin is the problem, and they replace it correctly, your truck should be perfect.

If you continue to have problems, there is a lemon law.

The Dickrango would have me concerned. I would not want to drive that heap if I just bought a 30k 4Runner that is in the shop. Not acceptable.

I just hit the 1000 mile mark this morning. Got the truck with only 4 miles and noticed the tranny on my way home from the dealer that day.

I got my truck back the night after I dropped it off and my truck has never been better! I love it more now. Well I don't wanna jinx myself so hopefully it stays that way. If you have problems with your truck, take it to Darcars Toyota in Silver Spring. All they wanna do is get paid so they will help you out with anything.
