Well I purchased my 2016 Trail 3 months ago and couldn't help but buy this 95 4Runner when I saw it. Damn near perfect condition. I really didn't want to start modding my Trail until after the warranty ran out but I have the itch so I'm going to mod the 95. Has a blown 3.0 in it. Everyone suggest swapping In a 3.4 which I suppose I will do but I am having trouble finding one with decent miles. Anyone have any suggestions on reputable Toyota engine dealers? Thanks

If you can't find a good used 3.4 you could always get a rebuilt one.

I see you're in West TN. I'm in the Nashville area. We have a facebook page called "Middle/ East Tennessee 4Runners". There's a few people in west TN though. Someone on there might have one for you.

There is a junkyard in Lavergne, TN I go to regularly and they sell complete engines for $180 + tax with a 30 day warranty. I would put one of those in my 3rd gen if mine ever blows. IMO, it would be worth the drive for a cheap engine. If not, you could always find someone on craigslist parting a 3rd gen out- or just buy one for parts.

If you're not going to DD the '95, and just plan to use it for a trail vehicle, you might reconsider the 3.4 swap. A replacement 3.0 would be a lot easier to drop in, cheaper, and will perform on the trail just as well as a 3.4. To my mind a 3.4 only has advantage for highway performance and for longevity, neither of which is particularly important for a trail-only vehicle.

I will check out the place in Lavergne, thank you. And I won't daily the vehicle, I will just be driving it to work which is a 20 mile round trip, take it hunting and trail riding.

I'd search for JDM importers in your area. Most of them carry the 3.4 from my personal experience since it's become more popular as of late. Another option would be local junkyards. There are plenty of them down here in FL or even private sellers. I've found a whole wrecked 3rd Gen 4Runner for $900 with the rear end damage on CL's.

I have an identical '95 3.0 v6, automatic. Agree it's more than adequate for "trail vehicle" and backroads but it is not happy on the interstates, especially if it's hilly. Can be a challenge to maintain uphill speed and short merges into fast traffic are not pleasant with the 3.0.
