Just venting. This is not a bashing Toyota thread this is bashing MY toyota thread.

Before my 06 V8 sport I had a 99 SR5 with 77k miles on it. I had it for 2 years. 2 flawless years at that.

When it came time to buy a new truck I had it narrowed down between a V8 T-Reg and the Runner. Both would be certified.

I drove the V8 Reg and I absolutly loved it. Adjustabe suspension, plenty of power and all the luxury goodies. Ultimatly having been a VW tech I decided against it. I have 1 child with another due in 2 weeks. I decided I would get something less "techy" and a bit more practical/reliable.

So I ended up with a black on black 06 V8 sport with 54k miles on it.

About 1k into ownership the radiator started leaking.

About 1500k into ownership it wouldnt shift into 4lo. Bad accuator.

Just picked up the truck and by the time I got home the lights on the climate control blew out and the sunroof seal has started to come off.

I am just venting but I am just a little pi$$ed and feel like I should have gotten the truck I really wanted instead.

Now I know you can come back at me with "well the T reg this that and the other thing" and you're right. But I am mad right now and am being a little irrational maybe:mad:

At any rate. Dropped the truck off yesterday, picked it up today, and will be dropping it off again on Monday.

If going from 1,000 miles into ownership to 1,500,000 miles into ownership, and all you had go wrong was an actuator, that's not bad at all!!

Seriously, that sounds like you got some kind of a lemon. Aren't there lemon laws, especially for a certified vehicle? Also, how has the experience been at the dealership? Did they give you a hard time?

haha yeah. if I was at 1500000 I would have very little to complain about.

I think the lemon law applies to the same issue a certain amount of times or when an issue can be fixed or something? This is 4 seperate problems.

And no they have not given me a hard time at all.
 
Still sucks you have the hassle of having to go into the dealership. This is why I won't buy most domestic products, even though they have good warranties. Hope that's the last of your troubles. All of my Toyota products I have owned have been rock solid.
 
im suprised. i have had my '06 V8 limited since last may and have had "0" problems. a friend referred me to the 4R and he said the most he has ever put into his except for normal maintenance is "0".

hopefully everything will work out. good luck.
 
Unfortunately, with all makes of vehicles with great reliability there will be a few outlyers. Seems you probably drew the short straw. My '08 has only 17k miles on it but my '00 had 152,000 miles and sold in near-showroom condition with few if any problems and my '90 was sold with 205,000 miles in great shape and little non-PM work. Both of those are still on the road as are 2 of my other 3 Toyotas with those 3 totaling almost 600,000 miles at last count. Sorry for your baad luck.
 
That does suck... FWIW it seems the t-case is perhaps the vehicles best and worst feature. You're not the 1st with an actuator issue. It seems as though these t-cases are very "use it or lose it", too much so.:-( The climate lights are 'normal' unfortunately. There's a few good threads and short of a LED conversion the Toyota dealer is the source for the little bulbs. The radiator leak just sucks and doesn't seem to be the norm.


Good luck, in the end game your better off than the Toureg. Congrats on the new little one! I hope he/she and Mom do well through the delivery.

As you think about the car and the family remember, all the features in the world don't make it safe or good. If they are stranded on the side of the road at 9:30PM that's unsafe, period. IMHO that's a little more likely to happen in the Toureg.
 
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Definitely isn't normal for a 4runner, especially halfway through a model cycle. Must be one of those cars made on a Monday or a Friday! Anyways, doesn't a vehicle have to go through quite an inspection to be qualified as "certified"? Maybe they skipped it and just put a certified stamp on it...I wonder if you could pose that question and have them do a real inspection at no charge.
 
Congratulations on your 2d baby! Sorry to hear 'bout your 4Runner problems. Not every 4th gen is a perfect one. There's always a bad apple amongst all. But your probs are minor not like you need a new tranny, engine, or transfer case or anything in that nature. Hope those things get fixed and you'll be on your way.
 
I can totally understand where you're coming from. It's so frustrating to go from a truck with no issues and then end up having to go back and forth to the dealer. Even more frustrating is when you have to keep badgering them to accept there is something wrong.

Hopefully you'll get everything squared away with your truck. One way to look at is is that at least you are getting a new radiator and acctuator on the truck which kind of puts you in a better position than if nothing had gone wrong int he first place :) at least that's the way I think about mine now the annoyance of dealership visits has worn off. Mine needed a new master cylinder and I just figure it was worth the hassle to have a brand new part installed.

I'm glad i got the certified/warranty stuff though. Would have been an entirely different response from me if i'd've actually had to pay to have anything done to the truck (cue spontenous combustion and epic amounts of cursing).
 
Trck goes in next week to get both Cats replaced...Havent even made it to my first scheduled oil change yet either!!

It will be done under the TSB.

I just really didnt expect to get to know the name of everyone that worked at that dealership :)

There has been a rash of thefts in our area on JUST 4Runner cats. What do they make them out of... platinum?

I bought a CPO 07 4WD with the V8 and have loved it so far. However it has only been 1 week .... so take that with a grain of salt.

But I traded in a Honda Pilot EX-L with a V6 and 2WD. So I have less "fancy stuff" but wont be worried about mud/snow next time I drive up to the Blue Mountains.

Back to the point of the thread. As already mentioned anything that you can find wrong during the 3 month unlimited and 7/100 warranty period the better for you. Even though dealer visits are sooooo boring.

I would certainly talk to the dealerships GM and even owner about why that vehicle was COP'ed and has had that many issues so soon.

Hope things are going better.
