The 2020s must use a different PN for the sensor. See if you can find it and post it for other interested users.

I noted how bright the screen was at night and was surprised that it doesn't auto-adjust. Not surprising that Toyota would skimp on a very basic feature.

For the 2020s, we are expected to shell out $130 for the sensor.

It’s not even worth $20. I can move my f—-in thumb over the brightness dial when it gets dark.

Found an Ebay link for a 2020 that appears to have the correct 4 pin plug with 3/4 pins active.

Through Carista I can change the sensitivity settings on my 18 ORP. The changes are kind of subtle. I wanted to make the sensor less sensitive when going dark, like when temporarily driving under a dark overpass. I played around with it for a while and decided upon:
Instrument lights dimming sensitivity = Darkest
Instrument lights restoring sensitivity = Normal

I tried this mod... It cost me my entire evening. After struggling to remove the dummy sensor, I installed the new sensor and it didn't work. In an attempt to fix it, I tried taking it out again and the head of the sensor popped out byitself :rant:

What a joke. Now I have the other half of the sensor stuck in my dash! Unlikely to ever be removed without taking out the entire dash.

Well shit, I received a defective light sensor and when I tried to remote it the top popped off with ZERO pressure and the plug has now fallen back down inside the dash. I have no idea how I'm goin to get it out short of removing the window or the dash. Removing the stereo just exposes the vents...

This sucks... my Baja designs fogs aren't working, they haven't since I installed the sensor. Fuses are still all good. don't know how this is related, but it must be.

Feel for you dude. I have a 2018 SR5 Premium. Just installed the new sensor. Doesn't work. Didn't think to try it before putting it in the hole. No way I'm going to try and dig it out now. With a smile on my face I'm going to try and enjoy my $10 piece of plastic upgrade.

Hey everyone so I had this same problem, but I have a solution. First, Find a sturdy paper clip and bend it like a small fish hook. Next you want to fish out the wires that connect to the back of your broken plastic. Then slowly guide the clip out in reverse (you may want to tape a mirror to your windshield to see plus a little led light). The clip gives less resistance in reverse. Continue using the paper clip until you are sure it's angled properly then use gentle force to pull it out with the paper clip hook.

Next, for those that didn't use electrical tape. The trick to remove this cheap sensor is to pull it up straight up. Pushing up at one angle will replicate my problem I and others have had on this thread (making you loose your head, literally). So use floss and wrap it around then whip it up like a noose. Good luck guys

My ebay china came in yesterday works like a champ on my 19 ORP. Set light dial right below max click. Turn on head lights. Shine light on sensor, dash lights get brighter. Remove the light dash darkens up.

Does work with my 19 ORP. I settled with dimming = darkest, restoring = darker. I think it works really well for cloudy days, but wish there was a setting beyond darkest for dusk on sunny days.

They changed it for 2020. Someone earlier in this thread advised of the same thing.

I bought that one for my 2020 ORP and it works. I can leave my headlights on all the time and the infotainment system goes into day mode when its bright outside, night mode when its dark.
