My '98 4Runner rollover rebuild thread

Just a quick intro and a couple pics.

I'm new to the forum and new to 4Runners, but been a Toyota guy my whole life. Picked up this 4Runner with 217,000 km for a good price, well maintained except it was rolled in deep snow.

Picked up a few hi-lifts and been working it back to shape. Final coat of bondo going on tonight and then paint, windshield, new brakes (rockauto), tires, and she'll be hitting the trail! :bluejump:

So I found a fender, front door, and rear door glass at a local wrecker for $200 or so. Got some new headlights and marker lights from rockauto. Going to get some decent tires for her and enjoy!!! Glad to save a good truck from the wreckers...

Yeah my buddy has already started de-striping it... They look horrid!

Thanks, not going crazy with it, just some 245/75R16 or 265/75 at the most tires. Removing the running boards, may make up a little skid plate for the gas tank... Might try to weld up my own front bumper with a winch mount.

I keep telling my buddy that the high lifts could get us out of a bind, but he insists we need a winch! :sniper:

LOL, yeah the 265/75 would be a nice height. I'm not doing anything crazy for trails, but it'd add a nice bit of clearance.

The running boards are basically useless for my needs. Thinking about making up my own rocker protectors though. Just some tube steel running along right under the rockers to take some of the brunt.

I hear Alberta has some good trails so maybe the bug will hit me and I'll want to get into crazier stuff!

For those that have built their own bumpers, what steel did you use? Maybe I'll get off my ass and use the search function like a good noob... My current front bumper is still good, so I was thinking of just storing it in case I chose to re-sell the truck. Then get a bumper from a wrecker and use it as a template for a custom one. Just something I can mount a winch to.

Oh yeah, for any other toyota lovers out there my other car is a '77 Celica GT. Saved it from rotting in a field last year. Stripped it pretty much bare inside, sandblasting and seam welding inside, then I'll mildly restore the interior, do the bodywork (it's all there just needs a lot of smoothing), and then likely go for a clean 7M-GTE install. Not aiming for retarded HP. 250 at the wheels or so would be tons of fun in that little car. Had an MR2 Turbo with 288 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque at the wheels and THAT was 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag... :flame:
