My cargo project

I'm a drummer, and lucky enough to be in a 5 piece band (we've played at some club every week, for the last 12 years) ... anyway

I didn't want to trash the back taking gear in and out

BTW, I don't work for Home Depot, and I'm not associated with Best Step or any floor kinda company for that matter, so don't think I'm spamming, but since I needed something to protect the carpeting / interior of the cargo area while I get my drums / PA Amp kinda of equipment out every week for a gig, I bought some stuff at Home Depot for people to stand on while they are working in the garage etc. (it's Anti Fatigue kinda stuff)

Its called "Best Step" and its Diamond Plate Interlocking Foam Mats

it comes in a 4 pack of 2' x 2' kind of a rubberized / foam mat and it covers the back very well

So far, I've been very happy with it

One pack did the whole back end and I have had no problem with them coming apart

A 15-yr old 1/8” styrene plastic telescoping liner that I formed from a 4’X8’ sheet cut into 4’X2’ sections. Then I used a plastic’s strip heater to make the 90-degree bends. The advantages are telescoping and tuff with a grained surface. Disadvantage is the hard plastic allows hard items to slide around w/o layers of carpet. I have a modified truck shell that should work when I need the full cargo area and a higher tuffer shell (for hauling firewood/etc). The used truck shell was cheaper and fits the cargo area around the wheel wells after cutting it in the middle and bolting it (lapped) to fit. The main use of my truck is handyman work almost weekly, seasonal fishing & firewood. I do have a 4’X7’ utility trailer that will hold ½ - ¾ cord of firewood when I need the extra cargo. A V6 1993 Ford Explorer handled these duties the last 15 yrs and I feel the 07 V6 4Runner will handle them better.

Last week I used the Runner to haul materials for a plumbing repair and steel to build two 5’ speed bumps (trying to protect the 8-10” deep pipe from trucks). jow

there is kind of a rubberized finish on it, so things won't slide around
