My Custom JBA A-Arms

I recently ordered a set of Dobinsons front and rear springs to lift my 4runner. As I am quite fond of the teal color that the Dobinsons springs come in, I set out to find my upper control arms that would either match or work well with this color. After doing some research I found the JBA arms and read and saw good things about them. I initially ordered these in red since that is the only color they come in and set on a quest to have them stripped and re-powder coated a different color. Come to find out my powder coater soaks the parts prior to sandblasting them which means I would ruin my bushings. I then got with Marlin at JBA Who initially told me I could not order the arms in the raw prior to powder coating, he now stated he had some in the raw and would swap mine out without any bushings pre-pressed in. For 50 bucks he sold me a set of bushings that total chaos uses and were not press in style. Long story short I had the arms powder coated to match the Dobinson's teal color, reattached the ball joint and put in the total chaos bushings.

Results are beautiful. I am now attempting to install my lift on Friday and will get pictures as soon as I can.

WOW!! You are officially the most committed Dobinsons customer in North America... at least when it comes to the color of our coils!!

Sounds like you had to do a lot of leg work to get to this point. It's going to look pretty amazing, and unique, once it's all bolted in. I can't wait to see it.

Nice! I have my JBA's coming in today. I sorta regret not choosing the raw option so I can get them powder coated to my liking.

So this probably means there's a market for multiple-color options for UCA's. JBA could be on to something here, and just send them raw without anything installed in them.

They aren't meant to get dirty; they're meant to fix suspension geometry- getting dirty is just something that typically happens. Some people like to keep their suspension and parts nice though. To add to that, even dirty parts look better when they aren't all different colors of the rainbow [emoji6]

You'd be surprised as to how many people are detail oriented and are into little things like color matching components. I am one of those people. I once had a 1991 VW Jetta that I chrome plated all of the Neuspeed suspension parts. On my 2011 Tacoma 4x4 I bought all the pieces in raw aluminum and had them anodized blue. The truck looked badass (at least in my head it did) When I got the 4Runner I took everything off of the Tacoma and put it on my nephews truck. He gets compliments all the time. I specifically ordered the JBA arms for my 4Runner because they are red and so are my coil springs and so are my rear air bags.

Thanks! They're not for everyone but I like em. I didn't buy this truck to be a rock crawler, it's my daily driver and kid transport vehicle too, so it will get dirty and likely dinged and scratched....though I do like to keep her clean when not in use for what she's bred for

You'd be surprised. Many people are of the thinking that if something looks good it can't be practical. This is especially true when it comes to off-road vehicles. Back in the mid-90's there was a guy in the town I lived in. He had an 1985 GMC full sized 1/2 ton Jimmy (same as a K5 Blazer) He did a frame off resto. The thing was beautiful. Powder coated frame, front and rear diffs. Chrome suspension, nuts and bolts. Suede interior with working a/c and a bunch of billet interior pieces. This thing was so nice that if I owned it I would drive it on special occasions only. Anyways, the owner would took it out mud wamping all the time. I actually saw it in action and it was a very capable truck that had no trouble keeping up with the beat up ones that were purely about "business" Most of the time the truck was dirty during off-roading season. But as soon as the season ended, he'd bust out the power washer and the thing would be show ready again.

I think it looks awesome! Where did you get the powder coating done here in town and what was the paint code? Oh and what did they charge you? I'm copying BTW. LOL
