My dash lights don't come on automatically anymore.

Hey Toyota heads (as myself). I had an engine block heater put in today (I just moved to Alaska) and now my dash and tail lights don't come on automatically anymore. I know to disconnect the negative terminal when working on the engine, but maybe they didn't do that. Is there any info anyone could give me on this topic b4 I go whine to the mechanic about my problem? I know he's going to say he didn't touch the battery and blah blah blah. Maybe there is a fuse or reset button I should look at b4? I would do that right now but it's coolder than the last ice age out there...and the sun went down about 1/2 day ago. Ya, sounds like hell but it's the opposite. Anyhow, if anybody has any "cool" information they could give my it would help me "chill out" about this problem. Popsmoto.

Since when do the gauges and stuff light up automatically?

Mind telling us what kind of truck you have? Year, model, trim?

Yeah like they said they don't come on automatically. But if you're just meaning they don't come on when you turn on the headlights then the fuse labeled tail in the fuse box under the hood controls the dash lights and tail lights. Could just be a blown fuse.

Maybe the headlights/dash lights were always on the on possition? I didn't remember the switch being on but maybe that is the only thing that changed? Now I feel like an idiot (if that simple thing was the difference) need to play with it tommorow. Thanks guys, and it's a 2000 4runner Sr5 w/rear locker. Great vehicle. Popsmoto.:thumb3:

the headlights is understandable since 2000 models have daytime running lights.

I just doubt the gauges light up with the DRL's, that'd be pointless... your lights musta just been on... since they turn off when you open the door.

Since your up in AK, you may find yourself getting a remote starter installed. This thread reminds me of a learning experience I had, in my first month with my '99. If you do leave your headlight switch in the on position (as I do) and then start the truck, the headlights come on, right? Ok. So what happens when you remotely start the truck, don't get into it, let the starter time out and it shuts the truck off (say after 20 min.) That's right....The headlights still stay on because no one opened the door after the ignition shut off.

Glad I had jumper cables the night I found this out!
