$#*! My Dealer Says

This thread is for all of the outlandish things our dealers tell us:

"Dont worry if it blows up because it is under warranty and Toyota pays us very well to fix things like that."- Asst. Service Manager

"Are you claiming this because you are afraid of catastrophic failure, do not like the ride, or do not like the vehicle?"-Asst. Service Manager

"Anything that rotates on a vehicle could cause a vibration and just because something is off by 1/1000th of an inch, doesnt mean we can start throwing parts at it. Toyota will charge us if it is not a defective part and we will have to charge you."-Asst. Service manager

"I think you are chasing a problem that doesnt exist"-Service Manager

While these statements disgust me, I am not surprised. It is not Toyota's fault and I know that they make a phenomenal vehicle, but the dealers are a huge part of their image!!!! I am pretty sure that I am not the only one with horror stories about my local dealer and thought I would start this

Wow that sounds exactly like my dealer me and my wife love our Toyota's but sometimes I really want to drive it right through their showroom lol. For instance my wifes 09 Rav4 Sport had an inner axle seal leaking trans fluid in our garage at 29k miles we did buy it used and got the extended warranty. They told us we abused it and must have hit something. He then asked us if it was used we of course said yes and he said take it to the dealer you got it from. I said well great we are here now fix it! Yes I am still bitter considering this happen a week ago and this is the 3rd Toyota we have bought from this dealer.

when having problems with wheel balance... on my brand new truck... with stock wheels....

"Yea... we see a lot of problems with aftermarket wheels. You should never change them. Those aftermarket wheels aren't as good."

"We can't get Trail Edition in Blue"

"We can't get Trail Edition with KDSS and Navigation together"

"We can't get Trail Edition in Blue with KDSS and Navigation"

"Well, it turns out we can place a preference request for a Shoreline Blue Pearl Trail Edition with KDSS and Nav, but it will take at least 90 days to get it, if it ever shows up."

"That free maintenance doesn't cover oil changes. You have to pay for them."

4Runner's are made in Texas.
You can't buy a Trail without KDSS.
The free maintenence isn't normally offered on the 4Runner, but we're gonna get it for you.

Salesman says we aren't the type of dealer to throw your keys on the roof so you have to buy a new car from us. You can leave at anytime. He walks away but before he leaves he puts my keys into his pocket.

All this is very disturbing. It sure seems like one would have to buy a luxury brand to get better service, which is total BS. Our Mercedes GL had numerous issues but the service department was very professional and took care of each issue without any BS. They actually cared about my inputs and even gave me follow-ups after each visit.

Had a tire rotation done and suddenly I had a vibration.

service manager - the wheel vibration is normal
me - well, I better bring my dad's 4Runner in and have you look at it.
service manager - why?
me - his doesn't vibrate at all - you think you could make it vibrate? You did a great job on mine.

Love it! LOL.

When I was buying and the sales person wasn't sure about a technical answer she would BS me, and I would call her out on it. After doing this three times, she just handed me their "sales eyes only" manual and told me look up whatever I needed. "Just don't let my manager see you with it."

This is the same lady that took me to a gravel pit and dirt mounds for my test drive. :)

The keys to your existing car?

No way would I let a salesman even handle my car keys.

Honestly I really like my salesman at Toyota I have actually bought 3 Toyota's from him it is my service department that blows goats

customer service rep quote

I inquired about some plastic parts (TE rocker panels to put on my Limited) at my local dealer and this is the response I got from their Customer Service Manager:

"Didn't you buy the truck elsewhere? because our parts department can't find you in our system. If you bought your truck in Cincinnati, you should buy your parts there. Our parts department has no interest."

This was from Butler Toyota on the North side of Indianapolis. Unfortunately they are the only dealer here on the north side so I'll be dealing with them for the 2 years of free maintenance that came with the truck, but I hope their service department manager has a better attitude towards service.

Okki

:jaw drop: These are very funny...after the fact. What would happen to all of us if we performed our jobs like this every day?

when I was looking for my 4R I was surprised how little most of the dealers know about vehicles. One lady salesperson for instance not only couldn't tell me what are DAC, A-TRAC etc buttons for , but she even didn't know that rear glass can be rolled down.
By the way salespersons lack of knowledge is true not only about Toyota, other brands dealers didin't know even what options vehicles have, not mention difficult stuff such as how 4x4 works :)

He did not get very far I followed behind and gave him an ear full.. lol.

Had Old FJ serviced and as I left the dealer it stalled out. Got it running and took it right back. Told Service Rep, his response what do you mean by stalled out. My reply "That usually means the engine shuts down but what do you think it means." Positive side it was nothing big but they actually allowed me back in the garage to explain what happened to the mechanic.. Well when he rechecked his work the tap dancing started when my oil was a quart low. He blamed automatic machine that pumps the oil. He said it had been broken. My response then why are you using it and how many other customers are short oil and you have been charging them for complete service.. Apologies came from every where and some free stuff too .
