My experience with a 5th Gen 2022 4R TRD OR

I recently rented a 2022 5th gen 4R TRD O/R with 12K miles. Drove it from Staten Island NY to central PA and back. Except the excellent gas mileage (21.4 MPG overall), bit larger inside dimensions and some what better riding comfort, rest specially the throttle response and gear hunting made me to value my3rd gen!

While going uphill at 67 MPH, I stepped on the gas like I used to in my 3rd gen.. I notice the speed is dropping, so I stepped on a bit more.. no change, then I had to pretty much do the paddle to metal and then the revs went to 5000+ and started climbing at the desired speed.

Later on I had the cruise on.. and experienced the annoying gear hunting while climbing hills, everyone inside the vehicle flung back and forward!

Apart from the gas mileage, I'd say the 3rd gen still the best!!

good to know. I always thought the 5th gen was a little bloated for what it was. I hope they correct that with the 6th gen.

Plush, that a good call for them now.
A friend has one, she said same thing bloated wishes she had my 3rd gen.
I've driven and riden in it agree with OP not for me and my usage.
Don't be expecting backward changes with new Gen, they hot sellers as is 3rd gen owners like us are too few.

I have 4 autos, 3rd gen, 06 convert. bmw, optima turbo and a sequndra. I enjoy and prefer my 3rd gen the most, perfect size, zip around and no gear hunting.

They should make these gen again.

if history is to be based on, the even-number gens have been the not-so-good ones, 2nd gen & 4th gen, when compared to the odd-number gens.
also, there's a rumor that the 6th gen will no longer be made in Japan.

Too bad they won’t make the new jimmy for sale in states. That would be legit. Wranglers are awesome, but their pricing is borderline hilarity. 60k+ for a rubicon now? GTFO…..

My wants don’t sell to the masses. I want skinny 3rd Gen size, 4-4200 lbs, 300-350 hp, front and rear lockers, (an AWD mode would be sweet) and package protected for 35” tires. That would just be a dream wouldn’t it?

Instead bloated heavy rigs with whiz bang shit and all the Nannie’s in the world is a what sells. With pristine paint and unused overland accessories that get used by flexing on other folks with billet wheels on coffee lines.
