So I just picked this truck up on Monday. It was about a 3 hour drive to get her and she drove back with no problems. The guy who sold it to me was the 3rd owner and used it mainly as a utility and recreational vehicle. His son was using it as a daily driver during the school year though. Registered her on Tuesday and now I'm trying to think of what I want to do first. There is a leak in a couple places but I don't know where they are coming from. Also a coolant leak that turned up yesterday which I think is coming from the radiator but I'm not certain. Really pumped to start working on it and getting my hands dirty.

The previous owner installed an aussie locker.

The interior is in really good shape. All the plastic is falling apart though. It lived in a city with really hot and dry summers so what can you expect?

You can even see the sun damage on the roof of my prelude. Living above 5,000ft will have its way with your paint :(

Looks good. That truck with a rear locker will take you lots of places. Chase down those leaks and baseline your preventative maintenance and you'll be good to go!

Sounds like a good deal! Well help you make her reliable and pretty.

Concur.
A few essentials...
Drain and replace that brake fluid, and probably your clutch fluid.
Replace those battery connectors with marine terminals.
Rewire the starter solenoid before you have intermittent cranking issue. Toyota screwed that wiring up. (see my thread for details)
Fix it this way:

Yes, your own health matters, too. Wear a dust mask and rip the carpet out. I threw all my carpeting in the washing machine.

Best of luck... Someday she'll look as clean as this (heh-heh).

That 4Runner looks like a solid candidate. Seems rust free, good interior too.

First 4x4? Boy it will only be downhill after you get used to a 1st Gen 4Runner. Hard to replace.

Looks like a nice rig. The interior looks great for the age. The first thing I do with any vehicle I buy, is change all/every fluid and filter the rig has! No matter what the condition of the rig. Check the spark plugs and usually just replace them, keeping old ones in tool box......just in case. Check all of the basic things, Brakes, Spare tire, jack.......I like to perform a tire change at home, so that I am familiar with the process for the vehicle, and I won't have to fumble around, if I should get a flat tire on the road.
Oh, and vacuum the heck out of it because you never know what's been in that thing!

put a wiper blade on the back before you accidently hit the button and scratch the glass.
looks like a good rig, get that top off.

You got a 1st Gen for your first 4x. That's like hitting a homer on your first at-bat! I went thru six or seven 4Xs before I got my 1G. She looks straight and complete. Well done sir! :bravo:

Welcome to the '86 club! Mine wasn't my first but will go to the grave with me. 110K on the speedo? I got 308K.
I pulled my carpet in the rear and rhino lined it.
