my first oil change

well it got to the point i just had to do the first oil change on my new 2006 4 runner ( sports edition v8 4wd) . at 3300 miles (they
recommend 5000 miles). i used the 5 -30 w synthetic mobile one
oil with the mobile one extended performance oil filter.the oil filter
is shorter than the toyota one but the same diameter #m- 102
according to the mobile one website.I did not know what the engine oil capacity was for the 4.7 v8 so i called the dealer and
he informed me that it was 6 quarts but when i put all 6 quarts
in it still reads slightly above the 1st dot is that normal afterall
i did pour 6 quarts in the crankase?

The top dot on the dipstick is the "full" mark, and the bottom dot is a "low" mark. Anywhere between the two dots is the operating range.

Normally the V8 takes 6.5 (or even 7) quarts with an OEM filter.

6.5-7 qts when empty...even with draining the old oil and removing old filter, it is sometimes difficult to get all the old oil out...so maybe that's why it only takes 6 or so quarts to fill it...

Sorry, should have asked first...need clarification...'first dot' from bottom or first dot from top of dip stick?

I got my first oil change at 1000 miles. I'd like to think that it helps to remove all the fine shavings or whatnot. =O

anyone know how many quarts in the v6?

I'm Pretty sure the V6 takes 5.5 quarts, but like I said I'm not so sure.

I am running the same oil and filter combination on mine and it has always taken 6.5 quarts to fill. Another filter you may consider that I run occassionally is the K&N as well. :

The 4.0-liter V6 engines in the 2005 4Runner hold 5.5 quarts (including filter change). Be sure your vehicle is flat when you drain the oil so that all of it comes out.
