hey guys,

I cant figure out why my heat is not turning on in the car? any thoughts...

we had a snowstorm here in NJ so not sure if that had anything to do with it...

there's coolant in the reservoir,
my car is not overheated
the belt is in place... i dont see any leaks...

so what can it be? possibly a fuse or something froze?

I don't know if this is your problem but last year at the most bitter, coldest part of the year my heat stopped working also. I found there is a TSB for the blower motor and that it will freeze over. Took me a couple of days of freezing my ass off to get it to the dealer and they fixed it for free.

my warranty is til 75K miles and im still under..

I hope they will cover since im under that.. around 70K...

do you think my dealer would be cool about it and change it for free( i just checked the TSB, it's until 36K miles)?

thanks for the tsb...looks like an expensive fix

any other thoughts?

the odd thing is that

my windshield fluid injectors are not squirting water either??

and that went out last night before the heat...

so do you think there's a correlation between the 2?

Re: ....

Well my dealer is pretty nice (but still a little tricky sometimes) so I don't know how they will respond but my dealer has fixed TSB's for me even after the warranty was up. It is a known problem so in my opinion they should and I would protest if they didn't.

If you are still under a warranty, no worry, they WILL fix it for free.

And I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of fixing this in the cold by myself and pay for the new blower motor. I could look at the receipt for the p/n and price tomorrow if you want.

I don't know if they are related. you may not have the blower motor freeze-over problem. I'd have to look at the electrical manual to see if the systems are related in any way. Possibly a fuse though???

if it's just a fuse, i'll be a happy camper...

but a fuse blowing out, doesnt make sense but checking it right after work....

Mine windshield fluid nozzles stopped awhile back, they were frozen over and clogged up. I sprayed them off at the car wash and they were good as new, until they froze again. Now I use de-icing fluid and haven't had a problem.

....

carwash did take care of my windshild fluid problem...

i was still w out heat this morning... so i took it to the dealer, because I wouldve turned into a human icicle...

so we'll see, i get a call soon and find out.. looks like it is the blower... motor...

any friend said I could've blow dry it... and it wouldve worked?

It may have but you'd probably be in the same position next winter. And this should be free under warranty so why not get the new part that won't be suseptable to freezing.

hey toybox..

it's great to have advisers like you on the board... definitely helped me out when I pulled out the TSB at the dealer... they're not use to seeing that....

thanks :)

I gotta call from them, they said the warranty is gonna cover it and also they found oil leak by the oil panel that the warranty covers as well... so around $1200 of work will be covered.. so im glad i got the 75K mile warranty....

Toybox, i know u're gonna hate me, but I havent done 60K mile service yet, and I got about 70K miles on the car...

what should i do for now? the whole service fee is 800 dollars, but I cant spend that much right now, and I wanna get by with crucial servicing....

transmission fluid? any others or they say even tranny could go w/out a change until 100Kmiles...

I don't know what is involved for the 60k. (I'm not even close yet) If the timing belt is on that one I would do that for sure. Also, if you ever plan on changing the tranny fluid then I wouldn't go too far past the recommended change interval.

....

this sux,

I woke up this morning and my heat blower didnt work again....

this is really annoying:bash:

looks like im going back to the dealer again...

any tips? what can go wrong.. same symptoms... blower doesnt blow?.... could be a fuse that's throwing things off...

OK, just my $0.02, so don't get mad. I got a few buddies who are mechanics and all they say is "do your prev. maintenance". They see lots of cars, newer and older, that require tons of expensive repairs due to people not servicing their cars. They tell customers that are looking at cars that if they can't afford the maintenance, they can't afford the car.

But if you don't have it now and want to prioritize, make sure your fluids, brakes, belts (including timing) and tires are good, and get the chasis lubed. That may hold you until you get some more cash for the rest of the scheduled maint.

If your washer nozzles are spitting out fluid, it could be your windshield washer fluid is frozen. Did you switch out to the winter fluid. The winter fluid has a lower freezing point.
