I've seen references to this in other threads. What is the difference between the Halogen vs. HID projector? Is it necessary to convert this part of the headlight?
 
Some halogen projectors work pretty well with HIDs, like the new 2006 4runner halogen projectors. Others, however, do not spread the light as evenly or the cutoff may look messed up. The Acura MDX halogen projectors work pretty well also.

One disadvantage to halogen projectors is that they are not as colorful as real HID projectors (no purple/blue flickering). Also, their output is still not as great as most HID projectors in terms of beam width and distance.
 
Dude that looks so crip, so creative. Somthing I may be considering in the very near future. I recenlty did a Autovizion 8000k HID conversion and I got light going everywhere. Shucks, I'm blinding the crap out of everyone even after angling my lights down. THAT'S AWSOME DUDE! GREAT JOB!
 
for everyone with the 06 4runner, or atleast the headlamps, the easiest switch to HID is the Lexus ES330 projector headlamp. it mounts perfectly in the 06 4runner housing. literally the same projector just HID. 3 screws thats all it takes.

What is the real life expectancy of an HID capsule (bulb)? I saw a number like 2500 hrs on a website once. This doesn't seem very long.

Are you talking about replacing projector inside the headlight housing? Looks like it.
 
So, from what i have read here, it sounds like the amount of glare you get off of installing HID's into reflectors is directly dependant on the quality of the HID bulbs that are used.

If the bulbs are made almost perfectly to the specs of the halogen bulbs (i.e. the same dimension of the 9006 it is replacing) then you will not get too much glare. However, if it is a lesser quality set-up, then you will have glare like crazy. Is this correct?

You got the exact point. The answer to your question is YES.
That's why I recommend checking the HID bulbs compare to your stock halogen prior installing.
 
So it is a big "trial and error" sort of thing when ordering these systems? How do I know which ones are good or bad before I order?

The reason I ask is, I know a shop that sells what they cal a Stage III HID kit which include 50W ballasts and bulbs and puts out a lot more light. I had the kit on my Audi, and it was night and day diferrence between the stock HID output at the same 4300k level...

Ask people who has HID for their personal opinion.
I do have Xetronic and I like it. It's in reflectors, but doesn't give much glare. Beam pattern is not as good as halogen, but close. In scale of 10, I'd give to this kit 8.5.

yes replacing the projector will give you the stock adjustment capability, and OE look. that is on the 06 headlamp.

Search in Google. You'll find a lot of info there. I got my Xetronic from Burtman Industries.
 
just put in your housing some TL's or FX35, it is a huge improvement and only costs as much as new headlights plus around 10-15 hours of your time
