So I realize this has been done, attempted and talked about on here many times. But not many have been in a 2nd Gen 4R.
This all started when I wanted to replace my OnStar mirror in my Grand Prix since I was taking the rest of the system out. I didn't want a mirror with buttons that no longer function. I had planned to just get the same auto dimming mirror with temp and compass but no OnStar.
I searched online and came across a few places that had the mirror I wanted for close to $200 shipped. I then happened upon this neat little site called ebay
where you can buy just about anything you can imagine - and a lot of things you don't ever want to imagine. Sometimes for a good price.
I found many many mirrors on there for good prices. Then I happened upon someone selling a couple of these mirrors with Homelink for just over $200 each. I debated it for a while, and finally snatched both of them up.
So, if anyone was ever wondering, yes, these can be installed fairly easily on a 2nd Gen 4R - or basically any other vehicle for that matter. Just run the harness through the headliner and down the a-pillar. Run the wires for the t-stat through the firewall and mount the t-stat. Connect all the wires and mount the mirror and you're done.
This pic kind of sucks. I just got it done and it was getting dark, but you get the idea. I'll post better ones later.
