I bought my used '06 V8 in November, put over 20k miles on it since (66k on the odo now), but no trip more then 3.5 hours each way.
The wife and I spent the weekend in Bar Harbor Maine for a friend's wedding. 8 hours and 300 miles each way, plus bopping around the island all weekend.
It was beautiful, hot weather (90's, high humidity) but I came away really happy with the truck as a road trip vehicle.
Averaged 20mpg for the entire trip (hand calculated). We took "back roads" most of the way, 45-55mph. Lots of stops to sight see, eat, etc.
No complaints about the AC, it cooled the cabin down quickly even after sitting in the sun all day. Once cooled down I could set it to 70/auto and it was prefectly comfortable.
Ride and handling were great. I lowered the tire pressures (stock sized Cooper Discoverer ATR's) to 34psi from the 40psi I was keeping it at as I was sick of the harsh ride and wasn't convinced it was making much difference day to day in MPG. It road noticeably smoother over the frequently potholed roads.
Tons of room for our suitcases and accouterments. I won't say the seats were the most comfortable but they weren't a problem either. Certainly not worse then any other car I've owned. Stopping every few of hours for coffee or whatever gave plenty of time to stretch.
If I had one gripe it would be wanting a second power port up front but that's easily fixed with a cheap splitter from Auto Zone.
