My MPGs suck!

Well the OP has 265/75/16 tires, as opposed to 285's. So its more like 3% or so for him.

And yes, the Scangauge can monitor A/F's. The refresh rate is fine for monitoring, but it is not fast enough for tuning.

i got 98 auto 4x4 sr-5 4.10 gear, with 4'' lift front and 5'' lift rear and running 305-65-17 m/t atz tires, and get 16-17 mpg in city i get 230 mile with 14.5 gallon with stock odometer so 250 mile with gps and on straight freeway no hill getting 290 mile or 310 mile with gps with 14.5 gallon 21-22 mpg on highway, now just got truetrac lsd for front and yukon grizzly locker and 4:88 yukon gear still the same mpg or less 16mpg maybe it better later after it break in, some how when i go trip said is 160 mile long and my truck only take 150 mile on odometer sorry for my spelling.

I would love to get 15mpg around town, that is what I am striving to get.

Right now I get about 13mpg city and about 19hwy, I live in a very hilly town though, if I am not going up hill only means Iam going down and about to go up in less than a mile.
I can see that on my Ultra Gauge as I start going UP any size hill MPGs drop down to like 3-6mpg then fly up to over 100mpg coasting down.

I changed my front 02 sensor a month ago and got absolutely zero out of it as far as I can tell and that sensor had been in there for 158xxx miles.

I just ordered a full Timing belt/Water pump kit from the "Aircabinguy" on Ebay should be here in a few days.
I am going to have all that changed plus new spark plugs and wires and clean the throttle body all in about a month.

If that doesn't do anything then I am stuck with 13mpg city as far as I can tell.
I have a 3" lift but I am only running 255/75R-17 Wrangler Silent Armour tires. So I would think I should be getting around 15mpg even lifted and in a hilly city.

The Ultra Gauge helped a little I went up from about 12MPG to 13MPG using it to gauge my gas pedal, tiny touch of the foot makes a difference.

When I first got the 4runner I was getting almost 20mpg (It had 265/70's). Then I added the 265/75's E load. It went down to 16mpg. I drive 75%highway and 25% city. I checked my speedo against my GPS and it is actually more accurate with the larger tires. Anyway, I did the Elbow Delete Mod and disconnected the battery for 20 minutes while doing the mod. I also removed my Load Bars and now with the same driving I am averaging 18mpg. I am also driving with the ECT button on.

Oh, good point. An ECU reset after a lift and stuff might be helpful.

unplug battery.. then highway drive for an hour with cruise on.. if that fails there is only one other cure..

Insert a ALH tdi engine 1.9 modified with bigger nozzels and ecu progam... should get you 240 ft lbs at 1200rpm...

Also do a big DIY thread with photos and prices so I can follow... should only be a 20 minute job...lol

Im getting 19mpg as I sit now. Definitly do a seafoam treatment, take that deckplate back off, lube the driveshaft, change diff/ transmission/ engine to synthetic fluids, switch to mid grade fuel.. thats all I can think of right now.

Good idea! I will start with the SeaFoam and then work my way to the fluids. It's that time for me to change the diff fluid anyways.

Thanks for the offer but I ordered an Ultra Gauge. Seems to have more for less. I know it doesn't have the trans. temp but I believe they are working on that.

Yeah, you have to compensate for the larger tires. I usually get 17/20. I just got 19.6 today with 25% city/75% highway. I found percentage difference between my odometer reading and actual distance traveled over about 150 miles I got a 7.57% difference. So you just multiply your odometer reading at fill up by 1.0757 to get actual distance traveled.

Didn't even think of the tire size difference in miles! Duh! I knew I kept you guys around for a reason. I will factor that in next time. Doesn't help that I also have the E load tires, live and learn.
