My new 88

Well....new to me. Picked it up a few weeks ago. It has its little qwerks buts what vehicle doent at 23 years old and 277,000 miles? Way nicer than my old 89 I had back in Hawaii. This one is dirty, inside and out, but well preserved and unmolested or butchered. $1,900 landed it for me, with only a tiny bit of rod knock and a blown passenger rear shock. Rebuild kit is on its way along with a new clutch. Should be here in the next day or so.

Ok so I found a bit of surface rust trying to pop up, took care of that mess right quickly.

Already taped but not yet sanded, you can see the issue.

The rust was mainly on the driver side, but I went ahead and did both so they'd look equally new after all was done.

Ahhhhhhhh, all new again!

Pics of the rebuild to come....whenever that happens. Three kids and a wife dont leave tons of time for that, but Ill swing it. Most likely when the cold mornings go away and the rain stops here in SoCal so I can daily drive my motorcycle. Im debating on the rear bumper, They look so much cleaner without....

congrats on your new truck mate! Definitely quite a bit cleaner than your your 89 i'd say.... good progress so far too.
Ive also wanted to take off my rear chrome bumper, i agree it looks better, but my luck thatd be the time i backed into something.....

That's a super clean original 1st Gen. Love it! Rims and tires look sweet -- great choice.

Today, some knucklehead rear-ended me while I was stopped on a freeway on-ramp. Fortunately, I was driving my Accord. I would have been SO p*ssed if I were driving the 4Runner. Point is. . . there are a lot of horrible drivers here in So. Cal. If I were you, I would keep the bumper on.

Thanks guys! I loved it before I even drove it. Kinda wondered why the guy insisted on meeting me somewhere....figured hed want to drive the truck there to make the engine warm before I drove it. More or less saw it coming but for the price I couldnt walk away. Low and behold, the next morning after it has cooled off all night, I crank it up and "knock knock knock knock knock" so the rebuild kit is alrfeady in the mail.

My interior is indeed grey, and complete, pretty harshly stained though.....guy must have been a mechanic that took his work home frequently....

And you have 1 extra badge in the front grill....

Awesome, confirmed the details today. My rebuild kit is on the UPS truck. All stock minus the .020 over pistons and rings. Time to go to Harbor Freight for an engine stand. Thanks for the compliments guys. Ill have plenty of pics of the build. 278,000 miles on the motor should yeild some pretty decent "old/new" comparsion photos of the internals.
