Last night I finally picked up my first 4runner. I had a 95 M3 and that treated me well before but i enjoy the idea of driving into uncharted territory. I love the truck so far, its a 2004 SR5 4WD Galactic Gray V6 with leather only 22,800 miles on it walked out the door with it at 23988. Future plans are Revtek spacers, 285 BFG M/T, ARB front bumper, Some audio work, and exhaust and intake. Just purchased my T4R.org sticker, Im lovin it...Ill try to get some pictures posted later today.

WOW, My 06 lease which is 3 years and 80,000 miles has buy out of $17k.

Whats their reason for only offering 17k ? I know suv value as well as truck values are down right now,but Toyotas values seem to hold much better than most.

Also dont forget even if they are offering you that and you approached them to buy it out they will mark it up big time for sale on their lot. I cant beleive what even 3rd gens are going for around here at the dealer....

i do not know, i have been to a couple of dealers and they were both way below what i thought i would be offered.
my truck is in perfect condition so i know that is not the reason.

to pay like $32 for a truck to only have it worth 1/2 2 years later sucks......

i feel like taking it off roading and beating the poo out of it, then when i sell it i won't feel so bad

Heres one of the pics i got while i was in Athens this weekend...

Here's the deal. The Stealer knows that if you are willing to trade-in, you know that they will not give you the value of the vehicle. They are ONLY interested if they can make a BIG profit on the trade-in. Most of the time, they auction off the trade-ins and flip them quick.

True it wastes money having your trades sit out back after taking them in on trade but most of the time if its worth keeping its in the shop within a few days or if its junk its wholesaled within the same amount of time. One reason dealers offer you low is to cover the costs (if any) to repair problems (brakes, tires, etc) so as they aren't cutting deep into their profits, and yes the other reason is to try and make a huge chunk of change.
Dealerships dont make nearly the profit people think they make on new cars, its all in the used cars. With web sites like Edmunds out there every customer who comes in thinks they know exactly what the dealer pays for a new car and that they should get it for that price. Its the mentality I run a business and I want to make money but when I buy my vehicle you can't. Thats why trade ins are so low-balled. Also there are books to use as a guideline but those are strictly guidelines.

And congrats on the new ride!!
