So i finally bought one
99 Limited w/ locker and minimal rust. Paid 6900. Has 270,000 Km.
I plan on doing the following during the next week.
Timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs & wires, all fluids, clock repair, deckplate mod if I could find where the hell to get them.
I've already ordered my B&M70268 should be here any day now. It came with remote start which I love especially when it gets like -30C here in Calgary.

I just wanna say thanks so much to this forum for all the great tips and advice.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome, oh you're gonna love this truck, and this community.

With regards to the deck plate, just go to any marine/boat shop. Typical size of the deck plate used by many is 4", myself included. also get the screw-out type. Ask for a Beckson brand.

Thanks a lot. I had been reading this forum for a while before i made the purchase. Very glad I did. There is no rust on the body, Minimal to average rust on the frame. Minor scratches on the body. Average damage to the leather for a 12 year old truck. Im quite happy already since I was looking at sr5's for $10,000 with more rust, funky noises, no options and locker.

Oh and your rig is amazing. I would have loved to get a black one but kinda hard to find. Used to live in Langley before I moved to the prairies.

Any ideas on what I should do first? I do plan on doing a suspension upgrade. Not looking to spend too much money on the lift. Should I do the LBJ's first. I will take this off road. Nothing too serious yet. There is a vibration at higher speeds. I figure this is the wheels. Should I upgrade the tires first. There is so much information on this site that I don't know what to do first. Any input will be grateful. Was thinking about the tundra brake upgrade but I have no issues so far so I might just wait till my brakes need replacing.

Congrats on the purchase! I'd start by doing the preventative maintenance stuff, some of which you've already mentioned:
-LBJ's
-rad/tranny cooler
-timing belt/water pump
-plugs and wires (make sure you get the right plugs, they're picky about this)
-front/rear diff, transfer case, and tranny fluid swap

This way you know you have a solid base that you can rely on. I'd do tires next after that, as we'll be heading into winter by that time.

Take care of the rust first, before winter rolls around. Clean it (especially the frame and rear axle housing) and POR-15 it.

That said, fluids, plugs and wires won't take long and are pretty cheap. Good PM there. But seriously, before going lift, tires, LBJ's (definitely inspect them though, if they look sketchy, then replace them immediately), brakes, etc, take care of the rust. Those other points are all moot if the frame rusts out on you. Not sure how bad Calgary is for rust, but if it is anything like the NE, you don't want 1 more unprotected winter on that thing. Don't spend money on a rusty rig. Fix the rust first.
