My new best friend - 2002 T4R SR5 155k miles - maintenance plan

(Hopefully if all goes well), I'll be picking up a 2002 4Runner SR5 today and I am super excited about it. It's been a long time since I was excited about a vehicle but after test driving this beast I think it's a match made in heaven. Too bad it’s not going to be my daily driver, but rather a truck to tow my boat with once a week and for periodic Home Depot trips.

The truck was inspected by my trusted mechanic. At 155k miles, it seems to still have a lot of original parts, which the mechanic was amazed by. The truck runs great, has great pickup, shifts quickly and smoothly, and in general feels great.
Nevertheless, a tune-up is an absolute necessity at this point. So, here’s my plan and I need your comments on this:

1. Rear springs. There is about a 1 inch gap before the truck hits the bump stops as it stands right now. When I load it up with my boat, it will be bad. So, that’s a must.

What else should I do as I replace the rear coils? Bushings I should replace, sway bar links (?), etc., anything I should check or grease, etc.? Should I replace the shocks? Not looking to lift or do anything crazy, simply for maintenance. As I said, the truck isn’t going to be a daily driver, so it’ll accumulate very few miles overall.

2. Radiator. Everything I read says to replace the radiator and not wait until it’s too late. Is this a must at this point? Is there a way to determine the condition of the situation that causes the coolant mixing into the tranny fluid? The fluid itself looked clean, mechanic said

3. Fuel filter. I think it might still be the original. Yikes.

4. Tranny flush?

5. Coolant flush?

6. Water pump?

7. Plugs and wires?

8. Has common T4R issues with the power antenna motor (at least the antenna is stuck in the up position), but I’ll do a search. Not critical.

9. Sun roof doesn’t work. Sounds like the motor actuates but the roof doesn’t slide. I’ll do a search on this too, but it’s not critical that it work for me.

10. What else? Brakes are fine, tires are good...

I’ll keep reading the forum to find my own answers but if someone wanted to jump in, I’d really appreciate any info you can provide.

Don't take this as gospel, but just my quick $0.02 here:

The rear springs will probably sag even if you replace them, after time that is. I'd replace the shocks if they're original, too. If it's mainly a towing/hauling vehicle, you could look into airbags to help the rear. Some have good luck with those for your application.

I'd flush all the fluids, personally, but you can also take a look at them and see how dirty they are. The trans should be red, if it's dark, brownish, flush it. I'm doing that very soon myself. I may also replace the diff oils, too. Never a bad idea unless you know it was done recently.

Consider a tranny cooler and replacing the radiator. 4R stock radiators have a tendency to bust at times and it also cools the trans, which means when that barrier breaks, the coolant and trans fluid mix, causing the dreaded pink milkshake (read: fried trans if you don't catch it immediately and tow it home). Once you separate the tranny cooling system from the radiator, then it is independent and no fluids can mix.

Here's what I've done on mine since I picked it up (albeit mine had 60k more miles on it):

LBJs replaced.
Oil and filter changed.
Diffs, transfer case, and transmission fluids changed.
Plugs and wires changed (make sure you get the dual pronged plugs, I went OE for them).
Air filter.
Cleaned MAF.
Fuel filter (supposed to be a lifetime part, but after 215k miles, I'm sure it didn't hurt to replace it).
Coolant flush.

And like tre9er said, you'd be better off adding a tranny cooler so you never have to worry about the pink milkshake. I have a manual so that wasn't an issue.

Did you do all this yourself? How was it? If not, how much did it all cost?

Oh, and I forgot to add, I also greased my driveshafts.

I was under the Runner the other day and I thought I saw zercs by the u-joints...am I right? Can I use a marine grade grease on it, like for trailer bearings?
