Good to know, Thai. It is pretty hard to beat a minivan when it comes to carrying people that the things that go along. Ditto on the calculations. That knowledge makes it hard to spend extra money for something like a Prius anyway, but I honestly think that the Prius is a much nicer car than an equivalently equipped Corolla/Matrix. Paying the "hybrid premium" helps shield you from gas prices a bit more, they are super reliable, they have low maintenance costs, and you should have better resale value. All in all, I think a Prius is a pretty darn good buy all things considered... not just looking at gas mileage.

Don't forget that a Prius has more tech stuff than a Corolla...including more high tensile steel, more technology, more sound deadening, better stereo among other things. And yeah, resale value of a Prius is ridiculous! Also include in there extremely low maintenance...no sparks to replace, no tranny fluid, no starter, long lasting brakes, etc.

I haven't driven at night yet, but my wife has, and she told me the headlights ROCK! The Passat had projectors, but they just seemed a little weak. Apparently, these are brighter and show more detail in the surfaces the light hits...somehow!

Yup, you buy a diesel car over a hybrid for its strong torque and sportier handling...but never buy it to help the environment nor to save gas over a hybrid. The sportier handling thing is being rapidly change because there are now more and more hybrid sports car (e.g. Infiniti M35h, upcoming Lexus GS450h, etc.).

So, I think we're going with the Advanced Tech package on our v. We test drove a Five w/ AT last night and the wife fell in love with the moonroof and the look of the black roof from the outside. The radar cruise was pretty clever (and done a lot better than the radar cruise from the RX330 that I drove as a pool car a few years back). The 7" screen for the high dollar nav has lines on the backup camera mode that move with the steering angle.
I'll be placing my order in April. Hopefully have it by the time the baby arrives in August. :hungry:

(Funny how Audi is making such a big deal about their new cars having LED headlights when i have been enjoying it since 2010! Of course, uber expensive LS460 hybrid already had LED headlights before me. Audi is making it like they re-invented the headlights!
