My New SUV!

Hey all,

About one week ago, I sold my '02 4runner to an old school friend. He promises to take good care of it...he also promises to join this forum soon.

After months (literally) of research and testdriving, I have found a good replacement for my 4runner. Here is my new baby (with my brother's '01 Disco SII):

(Sorry about the size.)

My next goal is to get an old gen 1 4runner for the modifications and narrow trails. This will be my rough & dirty platform. :gaptooth:

So, if anyone out there who knows of a good 1st gen 4runner, then please pass the word to me....

BTW, I will still hang out on this forum...for better or worst. :D But, i will step down as head of this forum.

Oh no, don't say that. After 3,000 posts what are we going to do without you posting?:awais:

I want to thankyou for giving me a chance to be a moderator, I have enjoyed this forum, I think you have created a great forum and I will miss your wit and wisdom.

One question, why do you have a picture of a MB after you posted the Disco? I hope you enjoy the 01 Disco and come back often & thanks for starting this forum. :)

Nah... just buy up the 1st gen real quick. Start restoring it.

Listen... I'll talk with some people at the forum and I'm sure we can straighten things out so you can still post in between runners. I have conections with some of them. ;): :bonk:

Your new SUV looks great btw.

Peter you've got it backwards, the Disco belongs to his brother, the Benz belongs to Thai.

Congrats on the new Benz Thai! But please don't ask me to start a new forum like I did when you traded in your old CR-V for the 4Runner :p Ahhhhh 3 locking diffs and a big gas guzzling V8 - must be nice! Drive it over to Florida and lets test it out on that "crater trail" at Withlacoochee

Fixing up an old 1st gen is a great idea - I love the looks and simplicity of the 1st gen before the alphabet soup of traction systems took over. Plus you wouldn't want to scratch that new baby of yours and I don't think you can do this in a G :) :

Hey guys, i am not planning on moving anywhere...i will still contribute whenever i can. You guys are not getting rid of me that easily! :D

Thanks all for your compliments...this is weird because i always thought the G-wagon as a "love it or hate it" vehicle. Let me tell you, i have received mixed reactions from my friends!

sharp4runr...good try...there is only ONE postwhore...and you ain't gonna take that title from me! :D

I got it at about $1000 below invoice. I traded in my M3 for it. So, right now, i only have one car...G500. I got a great deal because of several reasons: MB dealer in small town, not many people in town with $$, my G500 sat on dealer lot for 32 days, near end of '04 season for MB, and end of month deal (when they try to get rid of their cars). I am lucky to get such a deal on a rare vehicle (only 1500-2000 make it to the USA). It was a deal that i could not turn down, especially after losing my 4runner to my friend.

Again, thanks all for your compliments...i will be around this forum for a long time...this forum is my hobby and my other baby. :)

not the M3!!!!! i thought loosing the 4runner was bad enough......:(

Yeah i know...but after driving the M3 for 2 years, i found out one thing...i am not a sports car man. I like to run over things...and the M3 just wasn't good for that! :D In addition, i did not need two cars...insurance premiums were murder!

i'm messin wit ya thai.....i love m3's. good luck with your new ride though!! any man would be happy with an $80k truck!

Congrats Thai, that is one heck of a ride!! :) Does it feel as solid as they say? Good idea about getting a 1st. Gen for off road, I would suggest you look at picking up a 93-95 FZJ80 Landcruiser for off road you should be able to find one for $8K - $12K in good shape with front and rear lockers. That G500 is way to nice to take off road. :D

Very nice! :) It looks great! :) Congrats! :) but the m3, doh :( and I like the idea of getting a 1st gen Runner

anyways, Congrats again on the new G500

Thanks. Yeah, the G feels really solid and heavy. It weighs as much as my other brother's LX470 despite not being any bigger than my old 3rd gen 4runner!:eek2: There's a lot of heavy metal in the thing!

Of course, all that weight does not come free. Geez, my fuel economy is just plain horrible. In city, i get about 8-10 mpg...while highway is about 14.5 mpg. This is using PREMIUM fuel!:( Literally, if i drive in a lot of stop-n-go traffic, then i see the fuel needle going down every other minute!:sobbing: I am Iraq's #1 customer!:p

Very nice truck Thai. I am one of the people who happen to like the G-Wagon. I actually have a black 1:18 model sitting on the shelf in my room. Good luck with it. Too bad you had to get rid of your 4Runner and M3. Hopefully you will stick around and contribute your 4Runner knowledge. Don't let that G-Wagon erase your 4Runner knowledge. Also, good luck in finding that 1st gen 4Runner.

Thanks...actually, the G-wagon has pretty much the same technology as the 4runner.
